I have a 1986 200S that is running rough at idle and at low speed. i have cleaned the carb also adjusted needle valve several times, it seems to be running a little rich no matter how i set the carb.when at idle it is spuddering, no popping or back firing can not figure it out. also it seems to have plenty of power.

mine did that too. mine was the timming in the cdi generator. i would check it. it needs to between 12 thousands and 16 thousands of an inch. i set mine at 14 it was fine.

I think i know what you are talking about now just take the cover off and set the distance of the rotor thing and the magnet to 14 thousands with feeler gauge right.

What exactly does your sparkplug look like after a few minutes of riding or ideling? Does it foul plugs? What color is the plug? Did you rebuild the carb? And also welcome to the board, but give some more details so we can properly help you out ...

yes more details are needed. but i was only telling him what my problem was. it sounds 100% like mine. but he may have an air leak somewhere.

the spark plug is black real black i did not rebuild carb but i have cleaned it two times looks like a new one inside none of the jets are worn or the needles, also i have checked for air leaks by spraying starting fluid all a round carb, intake every thing.i checked the clearance on the cdi it was at 14 thousands but there was a spring broke on the timing advance, one of my sons buddy's has a junk 200s so i got a spring off of his and put on mine it did not help any.It is running rich when at idle you can see black smoke, and you can smell it. there is no gas running out of the carb like it flooding or anything.I have no idea what to do next mabe buy a carb rebuild kit, I NEED SOME HELP MY SON IS DRIVING ME CRAZY HE WANT'S TO RIDE.:wondering

It is the little jet on the bootom of the carb that is giving you problems along with probably the needle seat. I would suggest getting a new carb kit and going from there ,they will be around 20.00 online! Also make sure when you put it back together you have the needle in the proper clip position, but that is probably you issue !! And that attachment that Dammit had will also explain in more detail,I believe'That's good stuff !!!
