Hey guys,

Most of you know that im no spring chicken when it comes to Big Red's. My only problem is that I have ONLY owned 86 and 87s. I currently have 2 85's that im going to take 2 and make one. I have owned a 85 SX. My problem is this. The rear axle bearings are SHOT. I am wanting to order some new ones. But everything I keep seeing asks if its a early or late 85 model? The one im redoing has a production date of 4/85. The web sites say early or late, but dont tell you how to identify which one you have. I know that the 86 and 87 have the completely different rear drum and brake assembly. Is this what they are refering to? I could see them having slightly different bearings. Does anyone know for sure. This one has the early drum style on it. The one thats prone to let water in. Anyone? I dont want to drop $50 on something I can use.:beer

Clarification Needed!

I got my rear axle bearings off Dads... He knows his bearings and has the best prices around.

I think the Reds are the same as the 85' SX.

You need the serial number To tell if you have early or late model. I don't have the ability to look it up here, but I know on the fiche they have the serial numbers listed.

Clay, how can you tell if it's the old style drum or new style? Were both used on 85's?

The 85's all used the same drum. They did use 2 different brake arms in back though.

Looking at the fiche the bearings are all the same.

The difference in the 85 is the case. They used one style cases ( 41300-ha0-000 and 41301-ha0-000 ) through serial number FM063994 and then they used a different set of cases ( 41300-hao-010 & 41301-hao-010 ) from serial number FM063995 and on.
