View Full Version : History of 3 wheelers?
Hi,
Does anyone have a nice article on the history of three wheelers? when production started, and when it stopped etc., and share neat facts?
Also were three wheelers really discontinued due to safety concerns. I have been told this by everyone I know, and have onwed a three wheeler for many years. I believe it's all up to the rider on how secure they want to be.
thanks,
JTM

From my understanding ,thanks to the guys here...correct me if i'm wrong....there was no actual ban...the manfacturers agreed to stop producing the three-wheelers under pressure from the CPSC...right?

yea it definitely says something when how many people were killed in the 80's on 3-wheelers.. and look at some of us on here who have been riding them for almost 20 years.. and some longer than that... seems to me the unresponsible people buried themselves... not the trike.

Some of the Kawi info conflicts with the honda info (must be cause the Kawi info is canadian, eh. You hoser!). And how can the KLT200 be the largest displacement ATV on the market with the ATC200 and the 250R released in 81. I especially like the 82 KLT250, "sport-oriented" with a trailer hitch. Thats classic. Pretty interesting though
And if anyone has one of the original Prairies, I would love to see a picture of that.

I think the Kawasaki 200 was released into the market when the 185 was the performance machine to have. Shortly after though, Honda did the leap frog and brained everyone with the original 250r.
Kawasaki did build a pretty damm good racer in the end, The 86/87 Tecates were winning a lot of races in the latter part of the eighties but unfortunatly the party was over by that stage.
