Ignition and key problem 84 200ES

I have an 84 ES. When I turn the key, I pretty much have to toggle it a few times until the green neutral light comes on and I can start it. Apparently some kind of short. Is there an easy way to troubleshoot and correct the short, or do I just have to buy a new ignition? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

lol...mines the other way around, i have to jigal the key to get it to shut off or use the kill switch, Yep it's a ignition problem, see theres little heads inside of it that wear down after so many years of use, try finding a good used one.

the other that might be wrong with it is a wire broke off at the bottom of the ignition, have a look and see.

just sounds like its loose. my SX does it too.

mine does it all the time. I think its the mud that gets in there. I just spray some wd40 or fluid film in it and turn the key a few times and it works fine
