Anybody know if an 83-85 200X rear shock will fit an 84 250R? If not, what are my other options besides rebuilding the original? Anything fit it (budget does not allow for high end Alba or PEP stuff either)?

Also - I just got back from dropping off my "cut" swingarm axel off at the local machine shop for them to make me a new one. I asked for it to be hardened - they offered to make it out of Grade 8 material. Anybody know anything about Grade 8 strength properties? Will this be sufficient? I am having them make me Brass Bushings for it as well - no more siezing up I hope.

And as a final question - anybody know about how much a stock 84 silencer should weigh? When I took mine off I was suprised at it's weight. It's gotta weigh like 8 or 10 pounds?????? It is possible it is full of oil and residue?

Thanks

a basic rebuild on your shock is only gonna run about $90 dollars. you are gonna spend more than that trying to find and fit different shocks. gotta learn to spend cash where it is needed.

as for the silencer, 8-10lbs is about right. by the time you add all the steel togethor that goes into one of them it adds up. the spark arrestor, packing core, and packing.

Actually I have a good 200X shock that is not for any machine I have - that is why I ask. Although you do have good impressions as I am a tight-wad German! If all else fails, I can get mine rebuilt, but if I can make what I have work - I'll go that route for now.

if you can get the 200X shock to fit you are gonna find out that the ride will unbearable at best. the 200X shock was designed to run as no link so the spring rate is much stiffer as is the valving. now if you were to put the 250R shock on a 200X it would feel like you a put a blown shock on there as it would be really squishy and hardly responsive.

now if you can get the R spring on X shock it might be a good combonation.
