I have found what I was looking for, kind of. I was looking for a complete, running machine as I know better. But instead I've found a rolling chassis (with a lot of work to be done) to restore. It's sad looking right now, but I know what I have to do. That said, I must admit that without 3WW and you guys I may have not taken this project that has been in the back of my mind for the last ten years!

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l69/TORKER21/projectatc1.jpg
It will be needing a complete engine, so if any of you has one at a good price, please let me know ASAP. Also, it does not have one single good bearing in it. Of course I have already bought and recieved the bearings including front wheel, steering stem and rear axle. It will be needing a rear shock kit as well.
I know it's just another one but I just wanted to share it with you guys.
Right now I have a very straight frame that needed a few broken bolts removed, that was done already. The frame and swingarm (swingarm that I got from e-bay) will be sent to the painters ASAP. Frame will be red, swingarm will be natural aluminum.
The 1989 engine sits in two big buckets and the top end including cranckshaft, cylinder and everything else up there is junk!. The bottom end is all good including the cases and gears.
I could have bought a complete one but bringing it to the island was out of the question.
I'll be posting all the progress with pics, so stay tuned.
Thanks again to 3WW and all of you!!!!
What do you guys think???

Dammit!

Thanks guys.
It will not have a lot of bling, not a fan of the shiny stuff. She will be ridden and used but never abused. For abuse I have my championship winning DS650. I am the creator of the supermoto/atv events in the Island. We use the karting tracks that I belong to (yes, also love karting and road racing) It's growing like theres no tomorrow.
Here's a pic of us (Me and the DS) in practice
http://imageigloo.com/images/2209TORKER TT DS.JPG
The 250R will try the supermoto for sure when its done, but I want to enjoy this thing as much as I can, so its goint to have an ESR 5 pipe, reeds, good head work, a lot of fine tuning and thats it.
If anyone has a complete motor or know somebody that does, please let me know ASAP.
Thanks

Cool pic, I hope that catches on up this way, I would be all over that kind of racing. Post up more pics of that track and quads in the quad section.
P.S.
Your parts went out today so you should see them Thursday.

I knew a guy named Ron Toro that was big into MX when he lived in Peurto Rico before he came to the states. Know or heard of him? He acted like he was one of the fastest on the island and he was definitely fast the few times I seen him race over here.
Congrats on the start of the R, I've got a 250R I've been working on setting up for dirt flat track racing. Alot of fun but a real challenge to keep up with the quads...

Hi there, Billy:
The name sounds familiar, but I'm not really sure.
The 250R will be a trail / fun bike mostly. Will it see asphalt? That's for shure, but It's clear quads will be faster, It's just fun!!!
I just have to do this, I've been itchin for a trike since I sold my last ATC 16 years ago. I guess we can call it revenge!
The 250R it's already on the bare frame and being worked on, I'll post some pics tomorrow.
Cheers

Hi guys, I'd thought I update this and let you know, just for fun!
Progress has not been as fast as I wanted, but duty calls, if you know what I mean. Here are a few pics as of late.
http://imageigloo.com/images/3063IMGA0941.JPG
Here's the bare frame with all its "junkie" paint and rust
http://imageigloo.com/images/693IMGA0939.JPG
These are the before pics, it will be nice and red again, could it last another 21 years?
This is after a full day of wire wheeling, it was very hard work, ahhhh but the outcome!!!!!
I ran out of wire wheel (and burn one chinese angle grinder).
But this is how it came out.
http://imageigloo.com/images/6474IMGA0942.JPG
Here's another.
http://imageigloo.com/images/5638IMGA0943.JPG
I want to send it to the painters sooooooo bad, but before there was an area that needed attention first. Keep reading!
The rear master cyl (which I still need) at some point went bad and some shade tree mechanic (read, not a welder and not very bright) decided to install a car M/C, how? Welding it to the frame!!!! That's how the story goes anyways.
Here's the outcome.
http://imageigloo.com/images/7718before repair.JPG
Another:
http://imageigloo.com/images/7718before repair.JPG
Now, I have cut the afected area and vave replaced it with a piece of Chromemoly
tubing from a bent kart chassis that I have laying around, almost a perfect fit. I'm no welder so I took it to a friends. He is a machinist so he does almost all the work related to my racing machines and almost all chassis modifications that I need. The guy is gooooooood!!!
This is how it came out.
http://imageigloo.com/images/8503Repaired.JPG
And another:

A lot more to come, I'll keep you guys posted!

***UPDATE***
Well, since the irresposible guy/bodyshop painting the frame and swingarm it's not done yet , after 2 months, I've been busy colecting parts for the Project!!!
Engine found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :w00t: :w00t:
This engine came from what I believe it's a 1989 TRX 250R and boy does it have goodies!!
1. Upgraded clutch mec. (which came in 1989 engines)
2. Hinson clutch basket.
3. Brand new clutch kit.
4. Brand new wiseco piston and rod.
5. Boyesen RAD VALVE.
6. Every bearing, seal and gasket is new.
7. Very good national porting.
8. And last but not least a very nice work done to the head/dome!
I'm no fan of chrome, but it has its fair amount of it, even the cases and cylinder were sanded and polished. I have another set of clutch and stator covers that will be sandblasted, along with the rest of the engine so it has a nice, clean natural aluminum finish.
Here are some pics:

Now, can you guys help me to indentify this ignition system?
It's been years since I've worked on this motors and this does not look like its the factory sistem to me, it has like it looks to me an adjustable timing plate made from aluminum. The stator or whatever it's called (the magneto thing) looks smaller to me to. I really need your help here guys!!!

The plugs coming from this parts look newer, will it fit my 85' wiring?
I'm really exited about this project now. I wanted to be done by December, but I won't be able to make it. Freaking body shop

Looks like a stock ignition to me. You probably have an 85 wiring harness, thats why the plugs are diferent. You can either upgrade to an 86 harness or rewire the plug to get it to work.

Hi there Guys:
It's been a while, after 4 months of putting a lot of pressure on this painter I have my frame back. The guy still has my swingarm and a few other bits and pieces.
The frame came out as I wanted.
I'm needing basicly all the rubber bushings from the rear and radiator.
Any ideas to where can I get those?
Also rear wheels and tires showed up today, along with the new handlebar, clutch cable and handle, grips, front susp. seals and a few other parts.
Here's a few pics:

Hey there guys!!!
Progress has been slow but sure. I've gotten the other bits and pieces from the painters. Finally. Engine is in as well. I bought one of those bolt kits from "Masternuts" from e-bay that was supossed to have every single bolt, oh, and the original type as well. Well it does'nt even has 1/2 the bolts I needed. So that's been a set back to say the least. I DO NOT recomend you buy from these guys. That said...

Looks great so far Torker! I'm actually restoring mine as well, can I ask what shade of red you used on your frame? Looks like a really good match to factory red, how does it match up to the fenders and tank?...keep those pics coming, thanks!
torker
01-28-2007, 10:27 PM
Sorry, cyal8er, it was a color that I picked up from a color card. I believe it is some kind of VW red but I don't remember whar year. If you go to a paint center you should be able to pick it up as well or one you like.
I'm not really sure yet how it's going to match up as it's getting new plastics but it should look great. The only old piece of plastic is the gas tank and I just finish restoring it. I'll post some pics tomorrow. I wanted to get some before and after pics but I was just eager to get it done and I just started sanding and polishing like crazy, It's not like new but it is now red instead of fading white and it shines a bit, I think it gives it character, after all, it is 22 years old!!! It may still need some more sanding.
Hey, show us some pics of your resto ptoject, what do you say?

Well, here's a few pics for you guys of what's happening lately:
New bearings anyone? Since this thing did't have one single bearing in it, the first order of buisiness was, well, Get Bearings...and seals.
Some I got locally, the rest from all balls.:naughty: :naughty:
And press them in... This parts / assy's have been sitting for a while now.
It's time to put them where they belong...

I went to my local Moto-X store, talk to the guys and asked for my parts.
These were sitting there, waiting, for the last 16 years!!!, for me to pick them up.
http://img01.picoodle.com/img/img01/7/1/29/t_HPIM0026i_d838m_89f28dd.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?srv=img01&img=/7/1/29/f_HPIM0026i_d838m_89f28dd.jpg)
I got a super price. All the front suspension repair parts I needed, all original (I got replacements previously but since everyone here kept saying to get the original parts all the time, I did) for the price of $20.00. A great deal...:w00t: :w00t:
Now for the fuel tank, the thing was all white, faded white, scratched and plain ugly and neglected. I did it the hard way. 100 wet sand paper then 320 wet, 400 wet, 600 wet, 1000 wet and finally rubbing compound and some kit. All by hand. Maybe with a buffer will look better. Maybe it needs some more sanding? Who knows? I trully believe this way has the character of the original warrior still in it.

Now, today, while I was in the garage doing God knows what, the last pieces that I ordered came in the mail. These guys flat out rock!!! I ordered these on Saturday and came in today via USPS priority and only $8.00 shipping. I got this from TM designworks. They deserve some publicity and I am definitelly buying from them again...

Ignition system finally identified.
This project its almost in hault since I had have to move, but, after looking and asking everywhere and everyone I found a picture of the complete system on e-bay and compared it to mine, and it turns out it's a ESR CR Ignition System. :w00t: :w00t:
The system on e-bay went for $365.00. :D Pretty cool haaahhl!!!!
http://i18.tinypic.com/6as4gw0.jpg
This is the one found on the net, the one on top is the one on my engine.
Now, Do I need a diferent coil? The connector plug to the wiring its completely diferent than the ATC's. Anyone has experience with these? Any help its apreciated.
Just thought I'd share it with you guys and ask for help in the process.

That system on Ebay is probably the one I bought, hondaatc-3wheelerworld right? :D I put it on and it most definitely made a difference over stock, a whole new machine.
For the coil, there should be a rounded type one that comes with the CR style ignition. You will have to get creative on mounting it, and run a ground from each post to a bolt somewheres on the frame. On mine I think I had one wire from the harness that plugged into the coil. The other was a ground that you used with a tether type kill swtich.

Hhmmmmm????
I certainly apreciate your help. I'm not sure I understand the "ground from each post" thing. I do have a brand new tether type kill switch that it's not installed yet.
Thanks Billy

Alright, on the coil. Theres a metal mounting post on each end of it, where it originally bolted to the frame of the dirtbike. On the trike theres no way to bolt it down with those posts, but they have to be grounded anyways. Theres also a wire from the harness that needs to be grounded, that is not part of the on/off switch from what I can recall. What I did is hooked this one ground wire from the harness to one of the posts on the coil with a nut/bolt, and then I ran a wire from the other post up to where the top radiator mount was, and zip tied the coil to the frame using some rubber pieces to help dampen the vibrations. What I'm saying is, that the coil itself has to be grounded someway for it to function. The original 250R coil only needs to plug into the ground wire in the wiring harness, instead of the system ground coming from the coil like the CR setup requires.

I know this has not been updated in over a year, but progress has been made. Slowly.
Just to give an update on this thing.
It's a copy of my old 85R drag bike from 1985-87.
I'm the one on the left lane with the red 250R (See the 1st pic).
This is a pic from 1987

I have been working on this bike for about 3 years on and off, but since the Drag Racing on here is blowing-up, I thought I'd finish the thing.
Here's where I'm at so far. Still has a lot of work to be done.
