This the Z Hawkeye was selling, I bought it.
Anways, I got a few questions. On top of the headlight plastics there is a diagram about a lever that I can pull when it is cold out and stuff. But it didn't give the location of said lever. Anyone know what I am talking about?
Next question is, where can I get a powervalve for this motor? I heard it suppose to smooth out the power band, and that be good, because I have alot of hills around here that don't give me a run at it.
Also, I heard that most people avoid waters with these machines. Why is that? I just gave it a water test....ok maybe 3-4, and it passed with flying colors....
Finally, it needs plastics. I mean need, because it doesn't have any rear fenders. there isn't any on ebay, so does Yamaha still sell them?

OH OK! It doesn't have a knob on it, just a straigth rod, that's why I couldn't find it lol.
Wow, maier plastics is expensive....ah well. I don't think I have ever seen black tri-z rear fenders, anyone got a pic of them?

Brand new OEM fenders from Yamaha are around $100.... www.partswarehouse.com is the cheapest
www.mrcycles.com little more expensive, but they ship anywhere.

buy the oem fenders - still available from yamaha. Front fender needs to come from maier though. Oems are so much nicer and sharp looking too.
looks like it will be a cool project to dress up - good luck with it. I have an 85 and an 86 and I really like how the tri-z fits and feels just right for all types of riding.
I got a 86 powervalve set up for sale, Ready to bolt on, 500$

I dont know why people say that about the water???? maybe there just scared.... Ive had mine up to the seat crossing the salamanca river on a poker run never had a problem!!! wouldnt take it any deeper than that due to the holes in the air box! even the 4x4 were gettin stuck... Not the Z
i agree raffa.the height of the air filter makes the z a nice deep watercrosser,vs other bikes.but that stuff will still chew up the axle and swinger bearings.
here is a z with black fenders bassman

I guess it wouldn't look that great on mine. Maybe if mine were yellow it'd look better.

Ok, after having it for 2 days now, I can finally say that I have mastered its power. I LOVE this machine. Best $750 i've ever spent.
Does anyone know the bolt pattern of the rear wheel? Is it a 4x100?
