84 250r and 83r rear axle ?

can any body tell me what the difference is in the rear axles of the 83 84 R's?? I have one of my buddies (84) and it is missing a collar retainer ? so I've been told, when you tighten up the axle nuts it just pulls through the carrier. Got any pics that shows a complete rear axle set up for an 84R. The dealer told him the 84 had an updated rear axle then the 83 which has this part I guess. need any info you people can spare. Thanks

I think the 84 had a stronger axle, that didn't bend so quick. 83/84 are interchangable.

Just wanted to check with you all again, I need a good close pic of the rear end of an 84R if anyone can help me out , I would appreciate it. Thanks

I don't own a 83 or 84 250r, I have the axle in my 86 200x. But I have read that the 84r axle is stronger.
