I was pickin' away at the R some more tonight. Figured I would hook up my new clutch cable, and shorty lever. It feels pretty stiff, enough that it would suck out on the trail. Everything is new. Plates(steel and friction) standard springs, new basket, new lifter and ball, and new case oil.

The engine has not been fired yet, no top-end on it. I thought maybe it was a lubrication issue, but I oiled everything up dripping wet, and soaked the plates.
Is it just the fact that everything hasn't been fully oiled because it hasn't been run in yet, or did I maybe overlook something?:wondering

Other than that, it's coming along. Still gotta get a carrier, and ext. axle sometime.
The ol' wallet is getting thin again, so it's time for a little break:D

that shorty lever combined with a new clutch is prolly the problem. i would say it will get better after a few hard runs.

I agree! Switch to a longer lever and also check your cable routing. The less bends, the better. Even though it's new, you can try and lube the cable also. Maybe run it first and see if it loosens up a bit. Make sure your lever isn't binding where it pivots too.

Clutch stiffness can be caused clutch cable binding which shouldnt be problem since yours is new, bad bearings where the clutch rod feeds into the case, or incorrect springs that are to stiff. ( some people have this ideas that the stiffer the springs are, the better) It is not a lubrication issue. A dry clutch will pull just as easily. A shorter lever decreases your leverage and will make it harder to pull.

Thanks,guys.

I did find the problem. It was one of the friction plates binding on the basket. I filed it a little, and it seems fine. It had a extra metal on one of the tabs.
Lever isn't too bad. It is a little stiffer than the stocker, but quite liveable.
Thanks again,
Dave
