hey, whatzupp!i have the EXACT same trike (year and model), so i can help you out. first, what kind of repairs, what is wrong with it? if it is all meesed up, just start some where and i will help ya out! as far as matenance, keep it clean, change the oil and oil filter every 20 hours or so. keep the fuel clean and use an in line filter. buy a new spark plug every year (ngk d7ea). keep the gap at about .024 - .028, keep the air filter clean, clean with gas. anything else?

Hey you can count me in on the "bring it back to life" campaign. I also have the same trike. As far as brakes, the rears are discs and will run you about $35. You also may want to replace the brake cable, $11. Both prices are out of a Dennis Kirk catalog. I highly reccomend getting a service manual. It will help you out in so many ways. Those can also be found in DK for about $26. Holler if you need any quick help. I have two manuals for this trike.

HEY, WE APPRECIATE THE HELPING HAND PLKMONSTER, YAMACHUCK AND TRI-Z. WE ARE GOING TO ORDER A REPAIR MANUAL THIS WEEK BUT MY HUSBAND WANTED TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU GUYS HAD A SCANNER AND COULD SEND US A DIAGRAM OF BACK BRAKES AND AUTOMATIC CLUTCH. DON'T WANT TO START TEARING APART WITHOUT HAVING SOME IDEA OF WHAT AM GETTING INTO. ANY TIPS AND TRICKS APPRECIATED. AM HUNTING FOR HEADLIGHT ASSEMBL. THE KID WHO HAD IT RIPPED THE WHOLE THING OFF. WE ALREADY REPLACED BEARINGS AND BUSHINGS FOR FRAME TO MOUNT RUNNING GEAR. IT RUNS GOOD BUT WANT TO MAKE IT RIGHT. BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I LIKE TO GO OUT IN THE WOODS AND RIDE AROUND FOR HOURS. AFTER WE GET THIS ONE STRAIGHTENED OUT WE MIGHT HAVE TO SHOP AROUND FOR ANOTHER SO WE WON'T BE FUSSING ABOUT WHO'S GOING OUT RIDING. AND JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, WE APPRECIATE THE CONCERN ABOUT OUR DAUGHTER AND NO SHE DOES NOT RIDE BY HERSELF. SHE IS FAR TOO SMALL FOR THE POWER OF THE TRIKE. WE ARE BUILDING HER A SEAT ON THE LUGGAGE RACK AND SHE GETS STRAPPED DOWN WITH A HELMET ON. IF MY HUSBAND OR I DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING STUPID ON THE TRIKE SHE STAYS HOME.

go to www.bikebandit.com and go through the parts finder, oem, then 85, then yamaha, then choose the dr. it will give you the list of parts. you can choose the brakes, or the clutch url. it will give you this small page with a pic on it. click on it and it will give you this huge, good diagram, and parts # if you need to order. also, the clutch is 2 parts, the friction plates, or the centrifugal clutch. happy riding!, oh yeah, about the headlight, look on ebay regularally. they usaully have one there.

has any of the ytm225dr owners on here had any trouble w/ oil leaking out of the sealing boot right where the driveshaft leaves the transmission? one im thinking about buying has this problem bad. the owner said he changed the oil and later that day it started doing it. also we tried to push start it and it made some sick grinding noise, could this have anything to do with it?

the bearing seal for the shaft is shot. also, the rear end could be shot.

what do you mean by the rear end? the differential? i need to know quickly cause i need to make up my mind whether i buy the trike or not. i took it to a shop and the mechanic told me it was the bearing seal, but any more info would be great.

The differential is what he is talking about. The easiest way to check it is to drain the oil out of it into a clean pan. There is a drain plug on the bottom. Check to see if there are any metal shavings in the oil. Hold the pan into the sunlight and the oil will shine brightly if it has meatl shavings in it. Also make sure you rock the trike back and forth sidways to check the axle bearings you can hold your hand on the axle next to the diff. and if there is movement between the 2 it is going to need axle bearings. Good Luck Josh

also, the ring and pinion could be shot. if they rebuilt the rear end, and didn't shim it correctly, the mesh could be all messed up, causing the gears to grind

nope im pretty sure the rear end is in good condition, it runs very strongly, just leaks oil at the connection between the shaft and the tranny. plus the oil is really clean and the person im buying it from said he just changed the engine oil so that seems to make more sense. the oil looks brand new pretty much. i guess its been leaking for the past two weeks or so, i think just the seal. im gonna buy it for 450, he bought it for 675 a month and a half ago. so i figure i could fix it for much less than what im saving, considering ive heard that the seals only cost about 10-15 bucks.
