Last Monday I rode the 250sx 16 milesacross the woods and back. Today I get on and it won't hardly run, backfires, shuts off on the throttle, sounds like its spitting back through the carb also. Any ideas what I should be looking for? I don't have much experience with this one and the carb is not even close to my Yamaha.

Most likly your carbs just clogged. If i ran good before a piece of dirt probably just got in there and clogged the jets up. Theres not much to cleaning them. But if it continues i would get a carb rebuild kit. And i would put some fuel filters on it. My 110s tank is somewhat dirty and they helped tons.

Is it full of gas? I would fill it up and swish it around because it probably has dirt in the tank and possibly might have gotten into the carb. Does putting it on reserve help?

Open the drain screw of the bowl on the carb with your petcock gas on, if it has a nice steady flow then your fuel is flowing fine. If not, then you need to trace back to the problem.

I know this sounds simple (but you didn't mention it in your post). How's the air filter?

Also - simple - but did you try a new plug?

ok, I tried the new plug and no help. So I guess I'll start on the carb.
