Started at 6:00 tonight and worked until 9:30. I got everything off besides the swingarm and everything connected to it. When i pulled the front forkes off, forgot all about the bearings up in there, so I have to buy bearings for it, or I can spend the rest of my life finding the ones that I dropped. :rolleyes:Any good place to buy them? I'll have it down to the frame tommarow night and start cleaning and degreasing. Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have it painted. Here are some pic's of what it looked like when I got it. I'll have pic's posted of my progess. I think it will look pretty good when I am finished. All white plastics, (sending my shrouds to AussieDuner so he can make a mold for the 86 200x) Orange frame and hubs. Hopefully it will turn out like this when I'm done.

Needing a little help pulling out the axle... I have the sprocket and rotor off, but have no clue of what to do next. I am reading the service manuel, but it's just confusing the hell out of me! Any help would be appreciated.:)

Well, I got everything off of her, now time to give a nice degreasing bath. Going to buy some paint, primer, and all that good stuff in the morning. I'm ordering the steering stem bearings tonight, hopefully getting a new axle tommarow, and then order hubs. 300ex hubs fit stock 200x axle correct?:TrikesOwn

Today I figured out that cleaning this damn frame is a pain! I'm getting it sandblasted somewhere... This is just aweful. Also got the paints, thanks sykolincoln, the dealer was the best place I've ever dealt with. Just walked in told them what I needed, and bam I was out of there. This is really starting to hit me how big of a process this is, but I know when I'm finished, I'll be happier than this guy right here --->

Man does that blaster do a worlds of difference. Here's the wee little bit that I got done today, before I added wet sand to the blaster... Lesson learned.

I have no access to a sand blaster so i know what its like. But paint stripper and a wire wheels always works great for me

Finished sandblasting the frame today. Now sanding and cleaning it off. Hopefully I'll have it primed by the end of today!:p

smyers33
09-16-2006, 03:14 PM
Alright got the first coat of primer on... I was told to wet sand it with 2000 grit. Is this correct, or do I need something not as fine? I have 600 grit and I think that will be fine because 2000 grit is going to be slicker than snot.

Use a wire wheel on most of it, then sand it with 600 in the tight spots. Then just work your way up to the finer stuff. It really dosent have to be 2000 grit smooth. I just wire wheeled my 110 frame and used some sandable primer, then gave it 3 coats of primer until is was smooth. Then used some por15 to spray it gloss black.

Wet sanded first coat, now I've just put on the second coat. Gonna wet sand it later tonight. It's gonna be orange by the end of the day tommarrow(sp?). I'm am really glad about how all this is turning out. It's really a lot easier than I expected it to be. But I still got to do the tank, swingarm, and footpegs. Any one know of any ways to get a decent sized dent out of a gas tank without taking it anywhere? I did a search, and read about filling it full of water, and freezing it. Does this really work? Also if I do have to take it somewhere, how much will you estimate it will cost? Any help is appreciated! :)

Yep, orange and white. I spent days looking at trikes on the here, and other websites, and this is the best color scheme I found.

Man am I so glad of how this turned out... It makes me feel like I'm done, but I still got to do the every other body part. I guess it will motivate me more to see it all together. :TrikesOwn

smyers33
09-19-2006, 03:58 PM
Well I'm going out today, hopefully to get everything else sandblasted. (tank, motormounts, footpegs, swingarm, and maybe something else that I'm forgetting) I'll then prep and prime the stuff, hopefully I'll be riding sometime next week! Ordered my Front fender 2 days ago, and then I'll be getting some shrouds and number plate hopefully in a couple weeks from Aussie!

Sandblasters broke, so I've been going at a slow pace lateley. I have the handle bars primed and ready to paint orange. I have the motor mounts ready to prime, which I'll do after work today. Bondo'd my gas tank, sanded it, and put another coat of bondo on it last night. I have about half of the swingarm sanded. I decided to paint the swingarm white, since it would be the only thing on my trike that was silver. I've got a friend coming over after work, and Hope fully I'll have everything primed and ready to prime.

Well just a little update. Got everything primed, and I'm gonna paint the handle bars, and motor mounts tommarow. Then the swingarm on friday. I will start the reasembly this weekend. When reasembling, is there any particular order to do it. My plan is to get everything but the motor in and then drop it in last. Is this the correct procedure?

smyers33

Got the swingarm painted. Letting it dry untill tommarow then I'll start the reassembly. Hopefully I'll also get the handle bars and motor mounts painted.

Lol... I'll be changing the fork boots... I think I might go with a blue to match the shock. Also I need some opinions....Blue or Black seat?

Looks great, I hope thats an automotive paint with a hardner. I just hate to see people do such great prep work only to use spray cans that simply do not last when exposed to the elements. For about 125$ you can get a gallon of paint, hardner and reducer and it will be pretty dam tough. Only powdercoating is better.

smyers33
10-01-2006, 05:58 PM
It is automotive paint with harder and reducer... And it only cost me $87 hehe. I also bought a pint of silver that I have to return. Thanks for the compliments everyone.

AHHH...... This is the best feeling I have ever felt. I don't care if it looks like a pos right at the moment. It runs, and man I'm glad. I just through everything on the handle bars, so I'll have to fix that tommarow, mount the shock res., bleed rear brakes, fix the throttle/idle, mount front fender, and I think thats about it. And about the throttle, I started it up, and it just revved extrememly high. I have a lot of play in it, so that's probbably whats wrong. I still need to get the seat covered, and get some new fork boots. But man oh man and I excited!!!!:TrikesOwn:w00t::w00t::w00t::TrikesOwn

Well got it all together and rode it today. But I have to say I'm not completely satisfied with how it turned out. I still need to get fork boots, and seat covered. I dont know... I'll make the R that I eventually get look ten times better, and not go cheap.

Man you did'nt waste any time getting that done...It'll be spring till I ride mine...My neighbor just started on my tank, should'nt take to long to get it done....

Anyway...have fun...:TrikesOwn

New fork books, new plastics (if you can get them from Maier?), polish up that shock rezzy, paint the exhaust/pegs/kicker/all the small, simple items.. and it will look 100 times better. You wouldn't imagine how much the little parts make a difference. Putting a freshly powdercoated kicker on my 350X made it look 20 times better than the old looking kicker. It looks like you put alot of work into it, don't let the small things ruin it!

I just bought that front fender, and I plan on restoring my rear fender since a new one is about $200. I was hesistant to paint my foot pegs, skid plates and stuff like that since it's probably just going to get scratched up. I guess I will take your advice and do it. I am going to do all this eventually but I'm not as in a big of a hurry since I can ride now! Thanks for the compliments and help throughout this build.

Just ordered some 18" Holeshots for $117.90 from Rocky Mountain Atv. There were originally 127.90, but they sent me a ten dollar gift card last week in the mail. And I got free UPS ground shipping.
