i must say the a 1- 3 overide transmission is the way to go. love it. however i'm having alittle hesitation when starting off. when i shift to 2nd it clears up until i'm wot the it loose some of it power. i open the spark plug gap from .018 to .021 and it seem to help out but the problem slacked up alittle. i'm using a 95 cr 250r ignition system with a icat. [go to ebay and type in icat and that's what i got]...is the nology ignition worth the money or do i need to advance my time abit? it'a a 44mm lectron alky carb...

you need to lean out your main....also you cant punch it as soon as you dump the clutch with alky, youre pumping to much fuel into the cylinder, ease into the throttle out of the hole, take about 1/4 of a second to give it full throttle. you will figure it out. you should be all set with that ignition as long as you have it timed right.

What heat range of plug are you running now Ralph, 8?

I'm not familiar with what setup youre running, but I am pretty familar with alcohol setups. Are you running a boost jet, and what kind of carb?

91 cr 500 ported and polished, head rechambered, rad valve and a 44mm lectron alky carb w/ power jet. as i turned the metering rod to richen it/ it got better along with opening the spark plug from .018 to .021.

top part is light brown but the bottom is white.

that is extremely lean at WOT, richen up the powerjet. you want it to be completely white while being slightly wet looking.

I never had any luck reading spark plugs when running methanol. It sounds lean to me as well. Are you hearing any detonation in the motor at all?

what type of sound is that?

it sounds like a little demon tinking on the side of the cylinder with a ball peen hammer. If you pull the head you'll see what looks like the edges of the piston and squish band are sandblasted.

what about removing the exhaust pipe and looking in the flange?

you can't tell anything from that to do with detonation.

called Dennis Packard today about the carb. he told me that it sound like it's running out of fuel and it was lean. so he told me to richen the metering rod 1/2 turn and to modify my gas cap because it creating a vacuum which is not allowing the fuel to flow correctly. on the bottom of the gas cap is 2 small holes so i took a drill a drilled 8 nice size hole in the cap. will keep you posted on the outcome...bad weather has me indoors now.

might need to put a fuel pump on it or a higher flow fuel petcock if the cap doesn't work.

got a fuel pump on it already...hopefully richening the metering rod would work along with the cap mod.

when I was running alky 250's, I had to remove the fuel screen from inside the tank to help with flow as well. I just left the reserve tube sticking out

i remember someone telling me to remove that screen from the petcook. i'll try that also...
