Im mounting a set of 18" tires on the 83 R and was wondeing what size front sproket would be best for all around riding with good pick-up and top end. I currently have a 12 tooth on the front and the stock 39 on the rear. Any help at all would be great. Thanks

If the stocks were 20s (example) and you go to 18s, I would go 1 tooth up in the front. But if they were 22's, I would go 2 up. That should compensate for any speed loss from the 18s. So then the 18s should have the same top end as the stock 20s. And as usual the stock gearing is good for all around riding, thats about your best bet.

OK, thanks. Ya it seems like the most popular size front sproket is a 14 tooth with 18s which goes with what you are saying. Thanks again.
