OK Lets here all you can do to the 250sx!!! And how you would mod out yours!!
I just want a trike that will run with a 200x. With shaft drive so i dont have to screw with the chain and worry about it all the time!! And electric start.reverse!
This is how i would do one up!!!
'85 - '86 250r Front End :naughty:
350x Headlight
350x Front fender
22-11-9 RazR Tires
400ex Hubs for Extra Width
Wheel Spacers
'85 - '86 250r Rear Fenders possibly trimmed a bit
Custom Seat with "ATC" on the side
Prm Baja Grab Bar
350x Gas Tank and Shrouds :naughty:
Racing Bars/Grips
350x Carb and thumb throttle
FMF Exhaust off a 250ex/300ex
Anyone got any :pics: :pics: :pics: ???
I dont do many internal mods like cam/piston and all but i think that would be the most awesome trike ever! :naughty: :D

ok first things first, the 250sx throttle will fit the 350x carb with no issues.
Secondly I am looking at moddifying R and X plastics to fit the SX. I dont know how hard it will be but 450r is also an option. I'll try to start it next weekend
Thirdly the 350x gas tank should fit but it will be tight (from the words of Brapp). shouldnt be too hard to fit.
Fourthly you might be better off getting an old Supertrapp, Kerker, Jardine, Bassani, or even a new cobra because making the 250ex sytstem fit the SX might be some work
Fifthly as long as the splines are the same on the 400ex and SX go for it, may want to stay away from spacers if you do hard riding and are heavy. always the possibility of it breaking the lug bolts
lol and FINALLY have fun. If you find that this is not enough power go get an old powroll kit. Dirt crasher has one if you want some info on power increase. BTW with just the 350x carb you should be able to hang with a 200x, but where is the fun in that

my little paint drawing lol
dont laugh
this is madmaxs with a 200x (87 86) tank
Yes and wheeliepop sounds good. I just need a 250sx. I here there is one in a town very close to me for 60o bucks. Runs good. 200x front end. new rear plastic. recovered seat. good tires. but i dont have 600 bucks lol. i need to sell my 200x for money to get the 250

you know what. even 86 87 200x plastics would look good on the rear. IDK all i know is if and when i get one im gonna mod it with all the cash i have (which isnt much)

 :wondering
The 400ex hubs will not fix on the rear of an SX. The splines may line up but the way the SX hub is made to fit the bearings into the brake backing plate is diffrent.
I think the only mod really worth doing would be the 200x front end swap. (imo) Maybe a pipe and air filter. The SX is a fun machine the way it is.... A mud machine and a utility trike with a little better suspension than the Big Red.

well mine wouldnt have gotton much done with it if it wasnt christmas time.$500 bought me a Bassani, Gator tires, race plate, redone seat, Works Shock, 200x front end with progressive springs, 350x carb (which I need to replace ASAP because its a POS), and a K&N air filter.
Chris next ride your gonna ride my SX. You'll see a big difference from stock i think.

why would you get rid of yor 200x for one? I had a guy try to trade his 250sx for my 200x. Iw ouldn't do it, because I'm not a big fan of driveshafts.

Doesn't the SX weigh like 400 pounds?

i am. i hate adjusting the chain. i like to do wheelies and NEVER adjust the chain! Im tired of the chain poppin off on my 350x and my friends bikes and stuff so i want to keep the 350x and get a shaft drive for the trails and casual riding and shifting wheelies

08-25-2006, 09:51 PM
wow ya it does 357 lbs. but with a plastic gas tank (350X) and plastic shrouds. and a 250r front end (even lighter) Racing aluminum wheels! itll get a little better im sure

Lol, take a link out of the chain. Check your sprockets. My 200x chain used to pop all the f'n time. Then I realized, I had a tooth missing on the front sprocket.

Welp,,, mine is no longer stock niether... (although I have not had a chance to try it yet)
I think my SX will be a bit peppier with the supertrapp, K&N and rejetted carb. I was thinking about the 200x front end but I wanted to keep the front brakes, speedo and front rack. I added a few pounds of air to the front tire and that seems to help a bit.
My only beef with the SX is steering that big tire around all day really wears on me. :wondering I don't really jump or drive at high rates of speed so the suspension is ok for what I do. IDK... I guess I'm just an old timer that thinks it's fine just the way it is....

the 350x stuff doesnt thats all custom right there!
but im sure i can make it fit

Yeah I hear ya. Thats whats nice about my 200x front end, the steering stops arent in so i can make some really tight turns and the front tire is a little skinnier which helps with steering and the tires treads are flat so it doesnt really dig in. Thus not alot of work to steer, but I dont mind. You've seen me ride, I'm all body english lol.
And yeah a stock SX weighs 357 DRY.

Oh and a BR CDI box will increase torque since it'll change your power curve

08-28-2006, 06:46 PM
will the BR cdi sacrifice top end?

what's a "BR CDI" ? Who makes it? Where do you get it? How much?
I just bought an '85 SX and it won't stay running. I'm 99% sure it's losing spark. If the CDI is bad, I'd like to use one of these. Thanks.

"br cdi" I assume they mean a cdi unit out of a Big red 250

according to the microfische, they are the same part numbers, so how would they perform any different?
MODULE, IGN CONT for 1985 Honda ATC250SX

MODULE, IGN CONT for 1985 Honda ATC250ES

Last time I saw them they had different stickers/numbers. It was info brapp told me so it isnt necessarily right.

So are they the same or not? Does the Big Red CDI give you more power?:wondering

If you guys want performance I have a 313cc big bore kit with cam and valve springs. You can have port & flow work done too and the 250x/300ex carbs work well to. Or you can bore and stroke it to a 390cc and do a 4 valve 250x/300ex head on it with big valves and race cam:lol: :w00t: :w00t:
pistonhead72
01-13-2009, 07:58 AM
390cc's?! :w00t: Holy s#@t! Batman!! I'll betcha the clutch, tranny, driveshaft and rear don't stand a chance!
Mickey, I'm the guy you spoke yesterday afternoon around 5 about that electrical problem. 2 other people have said it sound's like it's starving for fuel also. It's just that I didn't have the problem until I replaced the fuse. But, I will check the carb and the fuel flow to the carb. Thanks again for your help.:)

If it is true (its been 2 years since I have messed with an sx) the gain will be negligible.

always felt it was too underpowered. 8 seconds in the 300ft isnt quick enough

true its a tank, but its good for thick woods where your longest straight is 150ft. i just hill climb and do tiny jumps, btw is there a rear spring that fits the 250sx i dont want to kill my trike

If your referring to a rear shock, worksperformance.com has 'em but they are pricey. They are under A-T Steelers Single
And yes they are nice for tight woods, but i dont find myself in those situations much anymore
