UPS droped off a set of fork's i bought - off of a 1985 ATC 250R

Problem is when i compress them they get stuck going down & they don't go down smooth ... they stick.

they do have fluid in them , no leaks .

What could be the problem ???

I would check to make sure they arent bent. Run your finger along the top part to see if there is any scaring on the surface. Springs could be bad too.

if they stick down they are probably bent

you need to take them apart and roll the sliders on a flat surface and see how they are.

both my 350x and 250r fork sliders arebent, but they dont impede the operation of them

Mine compress down but only come up half way...never thought about checking to see if they are bent.

I just removed a set off my 250r to put some new ones on. If you are needing another set I am sure I could part with my other ones and I know they are good lol.

you cant tell by just looking at them.

remove the top caps and drain the fluids and pull out the springs

remove the dust seal cap and then the snap ring then fork seal

remove the allen bolt on the underside of the forks

lightly pull up on the slider over and over again to bang/pull the fork seals out.

remove teh dampening rod from teh bottom slider holder.

not too hard to take them apart.

while they are apart definately put new fork seals and dust caps...a set is like 30 bucks at service honda.
