Well after a long while the 200x was finally fixed just a few months ago and something else had to break!! The kickstarter gave out completely, it goes down with no effort and doesn't turn the motor over at all. This had to happen after I got this running after so long, I had the engine out just a few months ago, it was a real bummer of a day. Anyway we got it pop started and I rode it home (about a mile) and on the way it was making this clanging noise in the engine. It still ran fine and when I roll it a little in gear I got the kicker to catch but it only works once and then even then it slips. So I power washed it tonight, and tommorrow I'm going to tear it down again...

To be continued...

Im guessing your kick starter gear is shot. And the broken pieces are rattling around. Its not a real complicated fix though.

The 200X kickers are known to go bad. I know Honda sold a kit to fix them, but they are rare.

Contact Howdy on the boards, I remember seeing him selling kits awhile ago. But I imagine they are all gone!

Dammit!

Keep in mind those kicker kits are year dependant. They are not the same for 83, 84 or 85 if I remember right. Make sure you get the right one for your engine.

I found the old thread about the kits but I have a quick question about the kicker pinion gear. In the Honda service manual it says that the gear is a 23 tooth for the 83 model but after 83 it's a 21 tooth. Is this going to effect me if I need a new one? Reason I ask is because if you go to order one on service honda or bikebandit they only have the 21 tooth and the motor in our X is an 83 and not an 84 like the rest of the trike.

Ok, upon further inspection of the Honda service manual it seems a number of gears are different. The kick starter drive gear and the kick starter idle gear are differnent sized from 83 to after 83 models. Does anyone know if I need to replace those if I replace the different sized pinion gear from an 84-85. I know this is a pretty technical question but I would hate to order one thing and find out I need other stuff too, thanks.

Some of the pics are a little blurry but you can see the teeth missing and chipped from the kickstarter pinion, drive, and idle gears. You can also see the teeth that broke off in the motor. Luckily we have an old parts motor I'm going to tear apart today to replace those three gears, from honda just those three parts together cost over $100.00 and I don't think that's gonna work.
