my friend had a honda big red. he had tractor tires on it. he was riding it 1 day and flipped it into a pond. it was fully underwater for 5 days. he went and got a truck and pulled it out. He tried to start it and it started right up. after a couple more months of riding it and messing it up the tranny locked up. he took and got it melted down for some money. he got 50 bucks for it.

You should of drained the oil. Flushed it through with diesel a few times, and put new oil in it and keep changing it, it would of ran just as good after that. Why would he leave it under water for 5 days? And why wouldnt he part it instead, could of got a decent amount for it in parts.

Too bad you didn't tell him about this site. I would have given him $300 for it and even come to pick it up. In fact, I am driving to Dallas on Monday. Kick him in the ass for being an idiot.

I have to say he sounds like a moron. No offense to you but this friend of yours needs a brain.

How would it have started? wouldnt it have had alot of gas in the engine, exhaust pipe, and carberator, wouldnt you have to get all of the water out of there before it would start? Im not sure what kind of gas cap they had either, it probably would have got gas in the tank too. and also...dont trikes float?

Thats crap!!! He melted it down?!!!!!!!!! A little steam just came out of my ears!!!!!
I have drown my 200s a few times. Everytime, I flush it out (not as good as I should have) and it ran like a champ everytime after. The rings eventually went on it. Even after the rings went, I still drove it (irresponsibilly) , but the thing kept kicking without rings. They dont make engines like that anymore.
I eventually parked it, and thats where it has sat for about a year, waiting for a much deserved ground up resto.
As for the floating question, my "friend" rode my 200s down to a creek, I caught up with him just in time to see my bike floating down the creek! I was mad! So yes, they do float, and would have kept running if he would have done it right. The tank was still above water, so it still had air. He let it die, and water flooded the exhaust : (
Thing fired right back up after a flush though.

I like to do that too, I leave me BR in the niagara river every other week or so, I don't even put gas in it, I tweaked the carb to run on water. So you are not alone in your folklore.

Yup, Solid Snake had it right. Your buddy seems to have nothing but bean dip north of the eyebrows. There's probably a dozen or many more of us who've submerged a trike, quad, bike, etc., & we all(most of us, I'm guessing) had the good sense to drain & refill the oil(ALSO- dry the air box out) many times before even trying to start the thing up again. That kind of stupid behavior pisses me off. Stories like that usually come from the rich kid who doesn't give a crap about his belongings(Dad? I need another trike, the BR just died), Or the total moron who doesn't know any better. WTF? FIVE days? The last time I submerged my DR350, I pulled it out THAT day, with some help. I had to leave it over night in the woods, but when I got 'er home & drained oil & refilled w/ fresh, cleaned out the AB & dried the AF, she started right up. I think I changed the oil 5 or 7 times before I rode it again.. That was at 9800miles. It now has 14,985 HARD miles on it, & not a puff of smoke anywhere/time. One more thing- Why in HE77 would he crush it? ARRGG!!! He probably could have made at LEAST a couple hundred parting 'er out!! Crazy.
