WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I must see more pictures of this strange, yet alluring creation. It's like a train wreck - i don't want to stare, but I can't stop looking at it, and to see someone riding a wheelie on it - WHAT THE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

It looks like a "Karacat". In russia they build these rigs to go over soft terrain, everything from marsh to snow. The smallest ones are trikes; the largest ones have 6-8 tires and living quarters!

Here's some good pictures of all the rigs:

http://karacat.narod.ru/photo_3wheels.html
http://karacat.narod.ru/photo_4wheels.html
http://karacat.narod.ru/photo_6wheels.html

I think the intertube-tire is very interesting; low ground pressure, lightweight, would likely make the machine float in water. How about using a 200X or 250R as the base machine? I had a 200X chassis I was thinking about using but someone decided to steal it!

If someone wants to build one, this is an awesome thread put together by a creative local Alaskan:

I'm curious as to what the straps are made of that holds the tube to
the wheel ?
Since I work at a tire shop I can get tubes and wheels of all kinds.
This looks totally awesome to ride !! Gotta try it ! :w00t:

I dunno what they are using, but old fire hose would work. Contact your local fire department, they usually have hose that is damaged and out of service. 1 1/2" would work good.

They use strips of nylon or rubberized cloth wrapped around the "rim" and intertube. This provides protection for the intertube and holds it in place very well. From what I've seen and read the intertube is not completely covered; doing so allows high and low spots around the wheel that act like a cleat. Using nylon and rubberized cloth allows the tire to conform to the ground and keep a large footprint to reduce surface PSI.

I think firehose would be too heavy and not quite flexible enough. While it does roll well it is till rather rigid. The bigger the hose the thicker wall it will have. Although 1.5" and 2" attack line isn't that heavy or thick it would still be heavier than a strip of nylon.

Here's another thread with some cool buggies and thier intertube type tires in action; http://www.alaska4x4network.com/showthread.php?t=11175

that is some of the craziest stuff ive seen. i watched the whole vid. at first i thought the second axle was just to help float over snow and water. but then realized its 6 wheel drive. the   exhaust goes up the side of the wind shield.

does anyone see a snorkel???
