It's the little white plastic piece in the center of the hole in picture... It's the one that selects regular or reserve.

i have an 85 250sx and I can't get the filter out of the tank... This is the one that the petcock connects to... There are pics in this thread http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32112&d=1155579291

Actually, I think the filter is in the little bowl at the bottom of the petcock - in which it just unscrews.

I see that one... but what about the tube in the tank that has the screens? Thats the one I need out. Thanks for the help...

I think that is just a tube that differentiates on from reserve. It should just pull out of the tank - probably siezed in with rust, work it a little with a pair of pliers - but don't break it.

what if I break it... It is needed or will an inline filter work as good?

I've pulled a few by screwing a screw gently in there just enough to grab it a little and pulled them out without a problem so far.

They are almost always brittle. The are a actually a small filter screen. It filters the gas before it gets to the petcock screen. If you take it out, you will likely ruin it, or put holes in it. Its not super critical. I have ran one without the screen in the tank. I did however run a inline filter. What ever you do, dont loose or ruin that little black O-Ring. YOU WILL NEED IT to get a seal when you thread the petcock back on.
