I'm doing my '86 250R in all black and need a black tank. I can't decide if I should get the standard Clarke size or the larger 4 gallon IMS. I go on extended rides every once in awhile so the extra fuel capacity might be worth it. My R seems to guzzle gas at WOT.

Anyone got a pic of the IMS tank? If it's super bulky I might pass on it.

not sure what the 85-85 tanks look like but i had a dessert tank on my 83R and it was huge compared to the stocker i have now. i would assume that the extra fuel is held in what would normaly be your shrouds, on the new tank

I've seen this pic at Dennis Kirk, but I wanted to see it on the trike. It just looks taller, no?

They're wider than stock. Doc86r (http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/showthread.php?t=24818) just did the same thing you're talking about. You might to ask him if he has a picture that shows the width a little better.

its big, but it is needed on any kind of long ride. I burned mine to nearly empty on fireroads and trails. some make fun of you, but atleast you don' run out of gas. Everybody make fun of the 4 gallon tank on my trx250r, but I had gas and didn't run out like some of the others I rode with. If you need it, don't worry too much about looks. You know if you order a new stock tank it comes in black?

Thanks for the replies. I think on my next ride I'll pay close attention to fuel consumption and see if the bigger one is really needed for my purposes.
