I have a 350X "take off" motor that I bought a few months ago. Any idea how to tell what year it is. If it helps the number on my NEW engine is TE08E-5017298 my original engine has TE08E-5009002. It doesn't have the same clutch mount as my original engine. (I cant bolt the bracket down for the cable on the crank case behind the cylinder.) Any help would be appreciated.

hi, its most likely that you have an 85 motor as the 86 has the clutch pull behind the cylinder and the 85 has it on the side case if i remember correctly.

The number on the motor shows to be a 1985 model. The 1986 engine starts with TE08E-5100001.

Thanks for the info, do you know off hand what the differences are between the 2motors?

The clutch set up is different also the cam chain tensioner's are different. The exhaust studs are shorter or longer on the 86 I can't remeber which. Carbs have different Jets. Rear brake set up, rear sprockets are different . Thats all that comes to mind but I am sure there are more. Do a search on the forums this has been talked about alot. :beer

Thanks, I was looking for motor specific differences. The rest of my bike is 86 just the engine is 85. I just wanted to know if I should look around for an 86 engine. I think the last guy who had this had a bad bottom end (86) and then put his top end on an 85 bottom. Thats why I just wanted motor differences. I did see some of those posts about the brakes, sprockets, etc. Do they have different trannies???

Thanks again!!!
