Can someone tell me what is up with the 1983 200X swingarms? They are tubular.....1984 and newer are normal square tubing. Are the 83 tube swingers weak???? Why did they change them? They look like Miltech custom swingers or something. I like the looks, but why only one year? Why the change?

Picture on this link is of Dammit's 200X

I'd say it was probably that the round tube swingarm was too intricate of a design to keep up with production. So Honda switched to an easier design. I wouldn't think that it would be a weakness issue.

Round tube swingers take a LOT more time to make then conventional types.

OK - so it was probably a cost savings on Honda's part. Thanks for the answers - It was haunting me as to why they changed it after just 1 year production. They sure look trick!

I'm not sure how much difference it makes but you'll also notice that there's no shock linkage in 1983. The shock mounts directly to the swinger.
