I am thinking about hooking up two 55watt lights up to my trike, I was wondering if I ran the lights straight to my battery and to a seperate switch from the stock lights, would that drain alot of power from my battery, or is there another way to wire the lights up so it doesnt drain my battery? Thank you very much in advance

hooking anything to the battery will put more of a strain on it. im not sure if you hook them up to the lighting coils if the stator will have enough output for both lights

Would it help make a difference if I somehow hooked the lights up to the alternator, or would that drain my alternator?

good question. Heres the answer, 55x2 on a battery will kill it fast, the charger on most older bikes like your or mine is only 1.5 amps, a 55x2 light drains fast then the charger puts in. how do i know, i tryed it , it didn't work to well, BUT like me you can do it this way, I have two 55 watt driving lights for a car, the ones you put on your self, I welded two nicely made brackets to the front rack, one i use for low beam and the second is high beam, but both are not on at the same time, Reason to much strane on the lighting coils , it will burn out. thats 110 watts on some thing that mean't to only have well 55 watts..

I hope this help man, like i said it's been done before:)
