View Full Version : exhaust stud hole is stripped

I have a honda 250es and one of the stud hole is stripped ,can this be fix- if so how do i go about to do it.Do i retap it to a bigger size.What would be the rite way to fix this,or a easy way.Any help would be great,Thanks....svo58

You can either tap it to the next size bigger and drill the exhaust flange's hole out, or you can install a Helicoil if you want to keep the same size fastener and thread pitch. They are stainless steel inserts that replace the original threads and they aren't that hard to install.

Some auto parts stores have 6MM and 8MM helicoil kits, plan on spending about 40 smacks.

I'm not sure about how much space there is to work with the motor in the trike on a 250es but if the frame downtube isn't in the way you could take the whole trike to a shop to have a helicoil done. If they can do it they'll probably charge about 10-20 bucks.

helicoil kit is about 40 dollars,it comes with the coil, tap and drill bit-yea a different size bit
you can try a 1/4-20 tap and bolt or go the next size bigger
the h-coils still loosen up and come out some times

I replaced all four of mine on my 350x. I did it while I had it tore down. I had to helicoil one of the holes and it hasnt caused a problem at all. I think I got the helicoil at autozone. Good luck
