What engine mounts into an 85 tri-z frame without too much modification? I would like to do something faster than a stock engine. Maybe YZ250, 490? Any ideas?

83-89 Yz250 is a direct bolt in.. possably up to 91 ( I eyeballed it with the bottom end in and no bolts, so if it doesnt fit all it will take is moddy your existing mounts)
490 looks to be a direct bolt in, but I cant say for sure,.. never tried it. Im sure someone on these forums has.
But, the CR500 is a pretty close to direct bolt in. I did it in around 3-5 hours. With some welding and torch experience, you can do it no problem.

What year Cr500? Aircooled? I'm open to any suggestions! I heard that someone built a Tri-shee also. Does anyone have info on that and what it involves? Thanks for the info!

I always thought that Tri-shee was a banshee engine in a Tri-Z frame but it looks to me like thats a modified shee frame all the way.

Kinda defeats the purpose of it. It's not a Tri-z. It's a 3-wheeled banshee. And you're right, it's ugly!

yz400, yz465, yz490 motors bolt up, some year yz250 and 125 motors bolt up too.
i think stuffin a YFZ 450 motor in a z frame would be cool, and fast.dont know if it can be done or not.but then again anything is possible if ya want to put in the wrench time.

Mine is an 85, so for sure 85 and 86 will be easy.. Im sure what changes they made in other years. And thats liquid cooled...

ugly? maybe to some. I like it because it is different (and a shee).
Josh, where did that picture come from? Was there an article to go with it?

LMAO, I'm with ya man! You can tell by looking at it that it would handle like crap too. It would make a nice drag machine though.

What about a WR500? I think they are the same as YZ490, rare though.

pre 84 490s had the exaust port comeing directly in contact with the frame..without heavy frame mods..its far from a bolt in..84 and up had the port comeing out in the middle of the cylinder.
the wr 500 was a short lived motor and from what i heard..It was no match with the 490.
