Hi everyone I have a 1983 ATC200 that had the original sprockets and chain from when it was new, and they were worn out so i got new ones. They are aftermarket, but are still the same number of teeth, etc, nothings changed. So anyway, i take off everything i need and get the rear sprocket and chain off, and i took the front sprocket off, which i noticed was extremely worn beyond normal, although it still fit nice and tight on the engine shaft. I put the new stuff on, and i noticed that i can take the front sprocket and phyicaly wiggle it side to side (not front to back like the direction of the chain). The old one fits perfectly, and the new one is almost loose. Is it supposed to do this? Also what is causing it to have some slop is that thin piece of metal that fits on the shaft and turns a little bit and then bolts onto the sprocket to keep it on the shaft. It is ok with the old one, but the new one is loose with it on. Any help will be appreciated!!

The thin piece of metal may be worn a little. Just recently I changed the front sprocket on our 200x and the new one still has play in it although not nearly as much as the old one. Your new piece will have some play in it naturally but if it's more then it was with the old one I would say that the old one was kind of worn in to place if you can understand that.

Yeah im gonna replace the metal piece on it soon. Its not too bad of play just a lot more than id like it to have. So i guess its normal for aftermarket sprockets to have some play.

All countersprockets have play, be it OEM or aftermarket. This helps in the alignment of the front and back sprockets. Nothing to worry about there.
