recentlt replaced the stator on my 86 tri-z 250 and noticed that the mounting plate for the stator is slotted for adjustment but there are no marks indicating timing, how do i know where to place it for the correct timing?

them slots do nothing but waste time, its the pick-up coil that must move , not the whole plate, if you ever get a motoplat, you can adjust the timeng on the fly, but good luck, i think i got the last one in the world!

That is its purpose, but you are going to find that if you fully adjust it from one extreme to the other, you will not be able to tell the difference.
