Where does this go?

I have a 1983 ATC200 I got from one of my neighbors for free, that I wanted to get together enough to be safe to ride. After sitting for probly over 10 years outside, it fires right up like it was new. One thing I cant figure out is where this one lone cable goes. There is a lever in the top right part of the head on the engine, which Ive been told is a compression release valve. On my uncles 81 ATC185, its just a plain lever, but on mine there is a cable attached to the lever that is about 1' long and runs over the carb but I cant figure out where it would attach to. Any ideas?

It goes in the the recoil startet. There is a plastic ring it goes in to inside the starter. There is a good chance it is gone & that is why it is not hooked up.

Ok i can see where it goes now. So when I take the starter off, the cable should slip into the little plastic piece inside?

Yes it should fit right in. When you pull the starter it should engage the decompression valve.
