The 1986 KTM 80 is basically the Tiger 80. The tank, shrouds, forks, frame, engine, seat, exhuast. I have compared many pics and i believe this information is true. Therefore, if one was able to get a KTM 80. They would have a very good start at a Tiger 80.
Here is a Tiger 80 Shoud...Here is a KTM 80 Tank and Shroud...

KTM----------http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/5465/ktm807xi.th.png (http://img53.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ktm807xi.png)

This is what i have read anyways about the Frame and seat. But it looks real close. IM sure a KTM 80 would be easier to find than a Tiger 80. Would it be worth it to try and build a tiger from ktm parts?
Also i am posting some tiger 80 pics i have found after searching...

I like the 80, but from the looks of what's laying under the LX, that thing should be pretty sick too. Is that a 3" exhaust? New rear? etc?

the pics with the red mustang is from my shop. I have about 20 or so more pics of the 80. I sold it to a board member who has been aquiring parts for it. i have no idea how far along it is. I think the subframe was "tiger" and so was the swinger and axle set up. it used the dirbike forks with custom triples. it did look fun but there is no way i would let my kid ride tht beast!!!

i dont think your going to find a KTM80 anyware for sale. i have been riding dirtbikes for 17 years and only see 1 KTM80 for sale on ebay i think i may have been about 4-5 years ago. now if you want KTM part you may beable to get new plastics at a KTM dealer but dont hold your breath.

if you want a 80cc trike go buy somthing newer like a CR80. them little motors got hellish snap for what they are, i just build a 1989 this year and it lifted the front end up in 2nd gear roostin outta a corner.

anyway good luck with the KTM stuff, youdo know the 125 and 250 ktm mx bike used the same style radiator, i may in fact be the same part number. use bikebandit.com to see if you canget parts yet.

this info is about 5 years old. it even states it in the mag article that the 80 was a converted KTM mini. BTW, Dan10 has a KTM 80 mini.

i have the tiger 80 and it sits the same way as you see it in the pictures above.i have since found 3 other ktm 80's for parts.2 complete and one in pieces.i have been collecting NOS ktm parts for this over the last few years.i have new forks, new radiators, new airbox's,new carb, new rear shock, new exhaust pipes, filters and many many small engine pieces.these parts are nowhere to be found because i bought out the biggest ktm dealer in the country of all ktm 80 parts left in the USA.only thing i need to make this complete is the rear grimeca master cylinder.once i find one i will then begin the rebuild it.im not rushing this because i want it to be like new when i get done with it.once i get started i will post pics.it wont be anytime soon though because me and my buddy are going to try and get the cagiva's done first.im working on the complete graphics kit for the cagiva right now.should have them ready real soon.

I just noticed something....(some others may have as well) That seat looks like it is just the motocycle seat. Looking at the rear view, seems they just made the fenders humped up in the middle to match the curve from the motorcyle rear fender. Very cool little machines.

I may be the one who owns it now. I have an 86' 80 mx that was origionally from eastern MA. It is exactly how you described it. I bought it with plans to convert it to a Tiger 80 but I personally dont think its possible without spending thousands upon thousands of dollars. Plus, in order to make all the one-off parts, you would need another Tiger 80 to go by. So I am pretty much going to finish restoring the 80 MX and I will be happy. Knowing the Tiger 80 is based off it is good enough for me!:)

You can see the front of the ktm in my sig.
