how do i get my 225dx axle out?

im puttin new axle and swinger bearings in 84 225 dx but i can not get the axle out. help me out on this guys. thanx

Been awhile since I did mine and i sold it so can't look at it anymore . Seems like you pull the brake assembly, tires and hubs and the large nuts on the axle off. Then the whole axle will drive out of the carrier from right to left if your behind the dx. My bearings were shot when I bought it and had to replace them. It was pretty hard to get out being all the bearings are rusted to the shaft. I would try and use some wd40 or something on the axle to lube it the best you can so it will help with disaasembly. Be careful if you pound on the end of the axle. The only trouble on mine was I used a brass bar but it was so tight that I mushroomed the end where the holes are drilled for a cotter pin that holds the castle nut. Mine was also a 225dx but a 1985. Hope thats not to confusing. And good luck. It seems to me that I ran a picture off of this site of a service manual that shows the whole assembly because I never had a shop manual. It helped to look at before I started.

i got it tore apart but i cant get the axle out. so i beat on the left side and it will com out on the right?

Dont bash on things... you have to take apart the rear end assembly and lossen the set scre on the diff. gear to get it out.

is that a hard job? i am also putting in new swinger bearings. any advise on them.

The hard part on the swing arm bearings is getting the driveshaft splines located and lined up on the rear pinion gear while you weasle the whole thing back into the frame. You will see what I mean.

You can do it whatever way you want. You can buy the clymer or haynes manual blah blah blah or whatever manual anyone says to buy. Turncircles around the thing and pray to the fairy god, but you are going to have to use a little force to drive the shaft out of the rearend to get it out. If you have some mechanical ability you can look at the system and figure it out. I changed mine and I thought it was a big deal at the onset but all said and done not to big a deal. Or make it a big Bay of Pigs style crisis like some would. It isn't really rocket science. I personally get some satisfaction out of fixing something and the experience that you gain. good luck

I'm sure the axle moves from left to right. I replaced mine several years ago. Everythign was stuck solid. I finally had to die grind the seal spacer on the left side of the axle so it would slide off the axle. Once I done that everything came apart easy. Don't bang on the axle to hard or you'll ruin the axle.

i have a origanal shop manual for the 200 and 225 that i just remembered i have. ill look that over. my axle is already bent like almost a 1/2 in so i dont care as long asit move. might invest in anotherone.

Just checking in on your progress. Its usually always a bear to get parts like that off of something 20+ years old. Pulling for ya.Went and looked at smokins link and I stand corrected on my first post as far as direction. I believe I remember the two axle nuts pulling the axle in to the right rear bearing to seat it after looking at the blowup.

There is a good blowup of the axle if you go to the 3ww home page in technical and pic shop manuals. It will give you a pretty good pic of the assembly. I copied one and took it to the garage on my teardown. And the grease and dirt doesn't matter if you have a printer.
