I have a 1985 Kawasaki KXT250 and its time for new rings. Smokes a little and has low compression and low power. I am rebuilding it and was woundering if its possable to bore the cylinder over to the next size or do they have the nickasil coating? If not then when did they start doing this? Thanks

your cylinder is nikisiled. if the coating is fine then you can re-ring it and be fine.
if the cylinder has to be bored and you want it re-nikisiled get a hold of www.kustom-kraft.com they nikisil cylinders.
as for the whole of it smoking a little bit, its a 2 stroke, they're gonna smoke.

All Tecates were Nikisel lined.

thats what i thought. so what is this nikisel stuff anyways? and what happens if it is bad, do you have to get a new sleeve or something? i think mine is bad, so i might have to have it shipped out and repaired.

a nikisiled cylinder has almost like a chrome coating that drastically reduces friction and heat in the cylinder. if it is bad you have to have the cylinder bored and the re-coated. most people dont get it re-coated cuz of the price. which if you think about how many hours you get from a single coating its not all that bad.
www.kustom-kraft.com nikisils 250cc cylinders for 279.00 and if you had it recoated every thirty(30) hours you would spend $9.30 and hour. but most people dont re-coat for years and for a bazillion hours so it turns into pennies on the hour.

cool, then i guess i am sending my clinder out to be redone. prices arent bad either, i can handle the extra 300 bucks. thanks for the input atcwrench.
