bwhiskers on here posted a few months ago about a free 1979 ATC110 to a good home. I took him up on the offer and drove up to Wisconsin and picked it up (1,000 miles round trip  ). Dan (bwhiskers) was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He even threw in a Haynes Service Manual and the original owners manual.

Things to work on:
• Loosen siezed header stud (stuck in head)
• tear down top end (no compression)
• soak head in degreaser/cleaner/????
• replace all top end gaskets
• put back together
• pray

I will take picts documenting the teardown and rebuild, but for now, here's the current picts. If anyone needs the full sized ones for any reason, let me know.

Any suggestions on an agent I can soak the head in that will also kill all the carbon build-up AND loosen that siezed stud?

Coincidently it's the exact same year and model as the very first trike I ever rode... :-D

put a torch on that stud. heat the aluminum around it then try to remove it.

PB blaster or kroil oil are the best two penetrants i know of.

and that looks very nice!!!!!!

Thanks! I was suprised how great of shape it was in for a 24 year old machine! I will try the torch trick. I have already been saturating it with PB Blaster since saturday. Just hoping it will have cut into that rust.

Good for you finally getting the trike youve been looking around for.

Looks to be in great cosmetic condition.

Yeah, it has some scratches on the plastic, the forks have some surface rust, and the engine needs a good cleaning, but even with all that it was much more than I was hoping for. :-D Someday it will be mint again.

glad to see you got a scoot chemical442!!! That is pretty clean right there, good luck on getting it fixed up to mint condition again, shouldn't take a whole lot of work it doesn't look like

I haven't been on pirate in awhile other than a couple posts in the atv section, I am pretty much getting in "nesting" mode right now and will have less time to surf and goof off in the next few months HHAHAHHA

Hey Ben! Did you end up getting that 70? If so, we should hook up and do some old school trike riding soon. Soon as I can get the Wonten rebuilt and broke in... :-D Let me know.....

No I didn't pick em up yet, I was gonna this weekend but guess what? My Dad crashed his semi, he's been driving for 30 years and this is his first real accident and they can him, what the hell is up with that? Since he got fired I figure I should probably hold on to my cash but hopefully in the next month? I dunno, but I'm sure as heck workin on getting something but money is probably gonna be a little tight around here for a while.

Ben, hope all goes well these next few weeks/months. with that much experience, surely he will have no problem getting hired on elsewhere. What a way to treat a life long driver....

On a more possitive note... SCORE! Just got home for lunch and removed the rears and discovered it already has an aftermarket pipe... Hell yeah!!! One less thing I gotta buy. :-D

Thanks for the concern. I don't think hes gonna get a job driving again, its what hes done since he was 15. He's thinking about working for Mitsubishi but he doesn't know yet. Well, I may not be able to get a trike but at least my Dad still wants to get the go-kart going like it used to again, thats a good thing. We're hopefully gonna go after school tomorrow and get some clutch parts and stuff, it ate up the drive belt today for some reason.

Sounds awesome man, what all exactly do u plan to do with it? Gonna put some different tires on it or something, any motor mods?

DG Pipe. Wow. that thing must haul ass.

Hell that 110 was closer to me then you probably. I should have beat you too it.

Damn.

The rebuild will be easy. My Grandma could rebuild one of those motors.
