I decided to post a topic on my project to try to figure some things out and show progress along the way. This way I will probally keep working on it, not just give up.Anyways what I am trying to do is take a 1983-1985(I believe)200X and put a 1995 CR250R engine in it.Well actually I had already had it in it and running but now I want to straighten some things out.Heres a pic of how I got it......

And heres one of the 1995 CR which i will probally part out once I know I need no more off it.....

Yeah I had it runnin up the road once like that and its very fast.I love it.hahaha.But like I said its a project.Hiding under its skin are alot of problems I have to work out like the hacked frame.I am going to post some pics in a second.

Okay here we go diving in to it...i took a little while and stripped it down and exposed the frame for what it is.(Ready to be bent is what it is)There are two spots that had to be cut so the engine would fit.One right in front of the pipe which disconnected the downtube and one right by the kicker. Here is a pic to show you what I need to fix.

Now what i was thinking since the frame has to clear where the pipe comes out is to design something like what the dirtbike had in the front and have a friend I know weld it up.He is very good BTW so I wouldent worry as long as I can come up with a way to make it clear. Here is the bikes frame which i wanted to replicate in my design...

Any input is greatly appreciated.:Bounce

How'd it go w/ the lining up of the rear sprocket & front? BTW that thing really looks evil!

Thanks man.Anyways that took a big part in the position of the engine on the trike. It lined up pretty good but I may have to trim a little metal off of this one little bracket thats in the way.I am not going to have to take out another tube of the frame thank god.Heres another progress pic and back to the garage I go.:D

Oh forgot to say I played around with my options a little.............

Needless to say the engine is still going on the three wheeler so dont worry. Isn't it kinda funny though that with a quick filing that would work?If someone tryed that i hope they like to roll more than ride.Anyways thanks for the comments and suggestions...Back to work!

Oh I forgot to say.I tryed a magnet on the CR's frame and I would say it is steel.I was thinking maybe I dont have to design a new front tube just cut that one out and weld it into the X.Would that work possibly? Then I would have a square downtube at the top as well.

why not convert the bike frame?take the subframe from the x,for a starting point, and rebuild it.that way the enigne cradle is still intact, and strong, next try to bolt the x front end on that bike frame, see what mods are needed, and wiehg out your options.

Hmm seems I am not the first one to attempt this.Maybe I should just fix the CR and go crazy with the trike like I planned to....Something big........V8? :)
