I serviced my 85' ATC 250R ... This is what i Found >

Honda 250R ATC 1985 - i just bought it ... and First time working on a ATV ->

Ok first I removed the Fuel tank , Flush it with fresh gas and found small amount of SAND .... -> Flush it till i did not see it any more "

Then i top off the Radiator with Honda 50/50 mix

Top off the Brake Fluid - with Honda Brake Fluid

Then Change the Spark Plug , Has a light amount of Gooey oil & Color is Black - <-----What does this mean ? i used a BR9ES Spark plug "

The Transmission - Had a Silver color to it and was very Low - What does the Color Mean ???

I change it to AMS OIL Full Syn 10/40 .... <--- is this ok ????

Bath Time -
i Used Engine Cleaner & Pressure Wash it - i try and Stay away from Bearing's

After the Bath i used syn car Grease and used a grease Gun on all 3 or 4 fitting's

i Used Honda chain Lube for the CHAIN, but i dont think it's thick enuff to protect ... Can i use something else ? what do you recommend ?

What can i use to grease the BEARING's ?

Mix a Fresh can of Gas 92 octane with Syn honda hp2 32.1 Ratio is this a Good Ratio ?

Also is their any Better Product's for gas & oil mixing - Looking for Better SYN OIL ??? Which one do you Recommend ...

That silver color in your tranny is usually the clutch plates and basket wearing out. Everything else sounds good...

The HP2 is good to use, Tim Sr has good luck with his BlueMarble, I have used Klotz in the past and use Amsoil now and it is my current favorite. I mix 50:1

I agree with SpeedBump on the Amsoil, 50;1 mix works good.

I would use a BR8ES, the 9 is colder.

I mix 50:1 also with Blue Marble. Remember to jet to your mixture, not your mixture to your jetting. Find what mixture you wanna use and stick with it. It took me over a month and the VERY valuable advice from Tim Sr to learn that!

I just use WD-40 on the chain every time I ride.

I might drain the tranny oil, fill it up, and ride for it for about 15 minutes, and change it again. It holds only about .6 of a qt. I use Valvoline 5w30 or 10w30 in mine. Was the color 'silver'? or 'milky'? Hope it's not milky, could be the mechanical seal (water pump seal).

You shouldnt use WD 40 on an o-ring chain if you guys have one. It allows dirt to get into the o-rings. O-ring chain lube or motor oil is best.

i agree on the plug ...use BR8ES wont foul as much.when i got my R the tranny was silver color too.i change it now with 10w40 valvoline once o month

Sounds good. On chains I use white grease or red grease. Sometimes old motor oil works good too.

i just check the Transmission Fluid And it's Silver again , what the hell .... should i take it to - JIFFY LUBE - have them do a Transmission Flush ... LOL

SILver, or a MIlky color? milky is water.... not good my freind, if its water....if it was gray from clutch i think you would be able to feel it, the pull will be very loose and it will blow the clutch off (my 310R did this last trip, to much power for the stock clutches.... and my oil change was like a silver gel pen.... but two oil changes, sounds like water to me... could be a head leak....
