the Tiger 500 I'm working on has been run with alky. I was wondering with the mods that are made for the alky will it run on pump gas with rejettingor a differant carb all together :wondering

probably different seals in the carb. the jet sizes have been raised from stock. because you need more alcahol to run compaired to gas. and mabee a high compression piston.

Probably had a fuel pump and an enlarged carb bowl for the alcohol. Jetting as mentioned would be different and probably the needle/seat setup too. Maybe even the float. Not sure what methanol does to plastic? :wondering

Save yourself some trouble, and get a new carb. The jets are either drilled out or way too big for pump gas. Also check your crank bearings cause people who dont purge the system, tend to have rust down deep!

humm did not know that about the rust. but I guess it makes sense, cause alcahol attracts water. just something I never thought of.

Your probably gonna have to run high octane fuel, because if it was running alcohol it probably has some pretty high compression.

and mabee a high compression piston.

actually we are talking about a 2 stroke,,, no such thing as a high compression piston for one

trying to use a carb for both is way to much work ,,, it would be alot easier on your brain to get another carb,

Alky likes advanced timing, so I you decide to run gasoline in it, check the flywheel to see if another keyway has been added, or the stock one welded up and a new groove machined. Im not sure what kind of advance it has from rotax, so there is a good chance the ignition is stock, but it dosent hurt to check. HH

well, first off the timing is different, for sure. then the porting is alcohol specific if its not cobbled together, the head is usually specific too. and remember when you ru alcohol, it takes 1 and a half times as much alcohol as gas because alcohol is an axygen carrying molecule, so to get 14.7:1 you need more fuel. you should run a vacuum fuel pump too.
