Home-made 3 wheeler!!

My friend calls me up and says he saw this "tricycle thing with a motor on it" sitting in someone's trash.. so we go to pick it up :)

It had a pretty trashed 3hp Briggs on it, but I had a spare 5hp that runs nicely that is on it now. The gearing is pretty weird, take-off is pretty slow, but it really picks up speed once you get it moving. We rode next to it on an enduro and got almost 40mph out of it with a 185lb passenger!

It looks like the person who made it just chopped a kids bicycle in half and welded the rest of the frame, and used some sort of axel from a lawn-mower / snowblower / etc. Its a differential (booo) so it sucks for really hard turning, but overall its very fun, and very scary.

Not something you see everyday!

BTW the other 3 wheeler is a Honda ATC 110, just for size comparison :)

Looks pretty unique, but honestly dude be careful 40 mph on a bicycle frame and front tire sounds a little locc in the coco. Don't hurt yourself, Nice find though.

haha yeah I'm worried about that front tire holding up too, but the rest of the frame is very solid, and its gotten a good torture test these past 2 weeks.

cut the front end off of it and graft on a front end from a 84 or so honda 200s then it would not be so bad to ride.

Looks very interesting to say the least hehe. But how do you stop that sucker? Does it have rear brakes? And I am like most on there, put a dirt bike front end or a trike to be alittle safer.

lol cool and custom i had a idea about something like this.... i need a patient :lol: but with some tlc and paint that thing could be really cool "try to make or find a cover or something for the enigine it would look tight!!

Yeah, it had a band brake in the back when we got it, but it was so rigged on there it didnt really work. We took the setup off now :) It stops fairly good on its own, and if you really need to stop, put your front feet down :D

I know the front end looks like it cant hold up to a lot, and it bothered me at first too, but it really can take a beating!

Is that a solid axle or one-wheel drive? I like, so crude. Someone mentioned putting a 200S front end on it, LOL The whle thing probably weighs less than a 200S front end. I wonder about the strength of that weld, though. I would gussett it.

The rear axle is a differential, which makes for not so good turning, since one tire comes off the ground, and its the one that spins. I'm going to weld the gears together soon though. The welds currently are very well done, and will more than likely last quite some time.

We are going to be fitting an 8hp Briggs on it as soon as we buy a 1" bore clutch for it. With re-gearing we estimate 50mph. I will post new pictures when its ready :)

I've seen some suicidal bikes in my day/had some but this by far is up on the list. I would still ride it too. I had many mini bikes without brakes and they do seem to stop within a respectable distance. Not necessarily the speed is going to get you but the fact that one wrong move and your shirt gets sucked into the clutch or you back gets a nasty burn from the cyl. head. etc. etc. etc. Lucky find in the trash though.

To stop you simply drop a leg down and let it go up under the tire. This will abruptly lock the rear wheels up and throw you. But hey.... You stopped. LMAO.

funny that's how I stopped my KLT the first time I rode it :P Too much dirt bike riding can KILL you on a trike, only had the KLT for 5 minutes before it left scars :P

More then likely we will never see one again! Definitly a canidate for trike fest. I like it.

I would leave the front stock and gear it lower, check the welds and maybe have them beefed up if necessary and keep the speed down. Who cares how fast it is, it's the uniqueness that everyone is intrigued by.

I would bling it up a bit and since it is so simple by all means paint the frame.

I'd let it go pretty cheap. The wheel/tire is NOS.

Seat is from a 85 Honda 700S nighthawk. The way my seat is sculptured, with a step up like that, it would look great on that thing. It has a few tears in the vinyl and I got a NOS for my 700.

Yes, it is still alive :) ... and so am I :eek: -- For the winter I removed the briggs 5hp and installed a VERY high lift cam (so much lift I had to get a smaller crank, the lobes were hitting the counter-weights), longer rod, shorter high comp piston .10 over, shaved head, and milled for the lift on the valves :)

As soon as it gets warmer here, it will be back together. I do have a video of it from back in the day. The other bike is a yz-490 with a bunch of mods and a bald tire :D. the video is still in RAW format, so when I encode it smaller I'll post it (probably tomorrow)
