I am disassembling the forks on my 84 Tecate to get the lower forks powdercoated.
The forks are already off the trike....it is completely disassembled. I have the tops off where the air valve is and the springs out and fluid drained. Do I need the special tool to hold the tube on the inside to remove the allen bolt on the bottom of the forks? Do the seals just slip out or do I need a seal puller like it says in the manual? Anybody who has taken their shocks apart please help me out. Thanks.

An air impact gun will remove the bottom allen bolt without use of that tool. Or you can use a wooden dowel to hold the damping rod inside the forks. I bought the tool and was told later that the impact driver would have done the trick. d'oh..

I pulled the seals out by prying them with a screw driver but a seal puller is recommended.
