85 250r clutch slack after 89 update install

I just installed the update kit on my 85 R and picked up a quite a bit of slack. I adjusted top and bottom all the way out but i still have about an inch of excessive play. Anyone else have this problem.

The cable is old but was ok before the update. Did the update just put my stretched cable over the edge.

Nope, it only takes a few 0.010" inches play in the clutch rod that goes through the engine to cause that. Anything that lets that rod go slack will do that.

So are you saying that this is normal for the update to cause a little more slack?

I actually ended up with less slack after I installed that kit on my '86 R.
