Hi all, I have attached an e-bay link showing a pair of 200X forks which are identical to mine. Notice the rubber dust seal between the upper and lower sections. I posted a thread a week or so ago asking how the fork boots are supposed to fit over this dust seal? I see other forks that have an internal dust seal that the fork boot covers. There is a clear difference.
Do I have the wrong year shock on my 85 200X, or did service honda send me the wrong fork boots? Again the attached link shows the identical forks that are on my trike.

those are fork gators. they act as a secondary swiper and seal. you take them off and slide your boots on over the slider for a factory look.

So is the fork gator an orginal honda installed part, or is this an aftermarketr piece someone else installed? Also When I remove the fork gators, I can see down into the fork where the circlip is. Is this normal or am I missing the "internal" dust seal. You mentioned that the gator is a secondary swiper?

yea if you look at a schematic picture of the forks you will notice in order the seal, circlip(snap ring), and then the swiper, then the aftermarket gator seal goes over the OEM swiper, gators are not a factory piece. your manual has an exploded view of the fork or www.bikebandit.com has one as well.

Is part #13 the gator seal? I thought there was some sort of seal that installed inside the fork over top of the circlip area. In fact I just ordered a set of seals from service honda. But it looks like I ordered another set of gator seals if these are part #13?
When I remove the gator seals from my forks it simply looks like the circlip area is too exposed to moisture and dirt using only a fork boot. (Fork boots snap in place but are not to water tight) I wanted to buy replacement seals that fit inside the lower fork so I can slip the new boots over the lower shock and have it fit like original.

I think what you need is the dust seal.. look at this auction .. thats what a normal dust seal looks like.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1985-HONDA-200X-TRIPLE-TREE-FORKS-AND-SHOCKS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43974QQitemZ4634 484505QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW see the black piece.. thats what your missing right?

Yes that is exactly what I need. Hopefully this is part #13 from the Bike Bandit skematic linked above. The Honda part number I ordered was 51425-473-003. Hopefully this is the correct part number for these dust seals.
Where does a person purchase the gator seals? It sounds like they are aftermarket.
