Can the sprocket hub on a 250r be taken off and turned around, because I have a newer axle as a replacment but it is off a trx250r and the hub is on backwards of the original axle. Please give me some good news anybody. :?:

I dont beleive so becuase the hub has the milled section that holds the retaining clip in. The hub also is designed to rest into the bearing carrier which it would not do correctly if flipped around.

You can use an 86-89 TRX250R axle in an 86 ATC250R with no problem. You may even be able to get it into an '85 with a little work. If you try and put an '85 axle into the '86 and up stock carrier the back of the sprocket hub hits the carrier where the adjuster is. I am working out the bugs of putting an '89 aluminum arm on my '85 and since I already have a nice aftermarket '85 axle I am trying to keep it. I had to put the '86 and up carrier in a lathe and turn down the part where you adjust it by about 50%. Now the carrier clears but I think from looking at my TRX that an aftermarket twin row '86 and up carrier will work with the '85 axle since the adjustment is made differently on the aftermarket carriers compared to the stock one. I hope this helps, I just wanted to try and clear up the confusion. Now if I can just get around to welding up that mount in the '85 frame, I'll have me an aluminum arm that is 1" shorter than stock witha 330cc motor. Can anyone say "Wheelie machine!!"?. BTW you'll need the caliper bracket and circlip to go with whatever style of arm you are using.

why would you do that? my 250r is hard enough to ride when i have it pinned. 4th gear wheelies are way to easy. I like the aluminum swingarm but 1" shorter would be sure death on my machine. I just bought a +6" to go on it.

so i am curious as to why you did this???
