I bought a 85 200x knowing that it had a carb problem. It will start up and idle just fine but when you go to rev it up, it will die out. I took the card off and cleaned out with card cleaner and I did not see dirt in the air/fuel mixture tube or anything. What else could it be?

Checked the air filter? It may be clogged with dirt and not let enough air flow to let it rev up. Did you make sure the incoming fuel line to the carb has plenty of fuel flowing? How about the spark plug? If it isn't new put a new one in it for good measures.

Filter is good, fuel flows just fine. I was wondering if the fuel/air mixture is not set right. Does anyone know how many turns out from bottom is the proper setting for the air/fuel mixture. I installed a new plug and I smell gas coming from the exhaust. From time to time it will fire but won't stay running. I smells rich.

Have you tried letting it warm up to normal operating temperature before you throttle it?
