Could someone measure their 1985-86 250r shocks for me. I need to know what the distance from inside of tube to inside of tube is. I purchased a used set of forks from a member here with the triple tree. I rebuilt the forks and mounted the triple tree and forks on the machine today. It appears that either the TT is not the correct one or I have the wrong rim and or hub assembly. I purchased these because the machine that I purchased had either 200X or older 250R forks on it. The brake was on the throttle side and the diameter of the tubes were smaller. The diameter is why I had to change the TT for the correct forks.

The forks I got, I beleive are 1986 as their is only 1 spring instead of the thr dual spring setup.

The forks on my 350X, 200X and the forks that were on this one were spaced at 9-3/8". These are only 9", thus the axle hangs out and the tire is not centered between the forks. It almost rubs because of the 3/8" negative offset.

I am just trying to determine if the TT is the problem or the rim and or hub is the problem.

Thank you.

Dave

I came up with between 9" - 9 1/16" on an '85 lower triple clamp inside fork tube-hole spacing.

DixiePlowboy says 9" and that sounds right. I let you know what I get too.

It sounds like you are missing either a left or right axle coller. Go to www.partsfish.com and join if you have not already done so. Look at the 1985 ATC front wheel. The part numbers are number 3 and number 4.

My 1986 ATC TT’s measure exactly 9 1/8” from inside to inside. I think you're missing one of the axle collars. Take a look at the partsfish schematics.

Thank you for the response.
I have both spacers. I just think that the whole front end that was on this machine came off an earlier year 250R. It has a gold hub and rim so it must be a 250R??!! My axle measures from outside to outside at 13". I was informed by the member here that the axle should be 10.5" I cannot beleive that 10.5" is the correct measurement as I only have 3/8 to 1/2" of overhang.. Maybe it is from the inside collar to the outside. Mine in that measurement is 11". This would then say that it is .5" to long for this setup.
Now beyond that, the question is, are the rim and hub compatable or do I have to try and find these now? I wish I knew someone near me that has a 250R to simply compare. Its hard explaining what is going on.
I do know that even if I changed the axle and spacers the tire would not be centered between the forks. Its rides way to close(1/8"+) on the throttle side and the brake disc lines up correctly on the brake side.
Can anyone shead light on my problem. Does anyone have a spare hub, rim, and axle that I could try. I would or could send payment via paypal as a bond. I would pay shipping both ways! Just to compare and determine what I actually need then return it for refund of bond. Nothing worse than buying parts to find out they do you no good. This has happened multiple times now with this machine.

If you can help me out I appreciate. I am seriously trying to make a nice machine again.

The front axle on the 86 is 12 5/8” long from end to end. I have the 86 set-up minus the right collar which I gave to BIGKAHUNA. I striped the hub of paint, so it needs to be refinished, but I have it axle and all.

Oh I forget this:
With a front tire size of 23 X 8.00-11, the gap should be about ½” on either side between fork and tire.

What do you want for the items?

Does anyone know if the front rims have different offsets for different years?

Could someone possibly measure the offset of their 1985/86 250R front rim? A measurement from the back of the brake disc to the rise on the hub for wheel mounting would also be appreciated.
Since the TT and forks are correct, my problem now is either the hub, rim, or hub and rim.

The tire mounted has a 7/8" gap on the brake fork siode and 1/8" on the throttle side. Thus something is off 3/8". This make sense as axle is 3/8" too long also. Just trying to figure out what parts I have to search. I am going to have so many good parts that I took off this machine when I am done. Someone spent the time rebuilding the bike at some point. Its a shame they did not just get the right parts then instead of mix and matching.

Can anyone here help me figure out what it is that I need to replace on my R so I can get the front end correct.

Could you post a pic, that would help? I can’t understand what measurement you need. Why don’t you have any information as to where you are from in your profile? I don’t like to deal with anonymous people on the Internet. At least you can’t let us know where you are from.

This is what the front hub looks like;

Sorry, about the no profile thing. I am a newbie who simply has not filled it out yet. I am located in Wisconsin. I need a measurement from the back of the disc to the portion of the hub closest to the disc where it starts fanning out for the wheel connection. Does that make sense? I will try and take a pic or 2 of what I have going on. I am trying to determine if this hub is wrong or if the rim offset is not correct.

Thank you for helping with this issue. I just wish the guy who owned the machine previously would not have bastardized it so bad. Hopefully its the hub or the rim and not both. I got this R for $700.00 and I have around $1100.00 into it!!! I have yet to touch the motor!!!!

Front end, New swingarm and carrier, used axle, sproket hub, breaks, plastic, chain, sprockets, beariings for carrier and swinarm pivot, block off plate, gas tank, rear rims and tires, grab bar, headlight bezel, front brake assembly, etc............. Damn this stuff adds up quick.

The green measurement from rotor to hub is 2 and 15/16". And the yellow measurement is 4 and 1/16".

The green measurement from rotor to hub is 2 and 15/16". And the yellow measurement is 4 and 1/16".

Well the hub may explain the problem. My measurements on the hub I have are.
Green 3-5/16"
Yellow 4-1/4"

That would explain the wheel being about 3/8" off center.

Now is just the hub the problem or is the rim also inclorrect? I took measurements of the rim on both sides to figure the offset. The offset is 3/8".

Could someone please check their offset for me so i know if I need a whole rim and hub or just the hub.

Tony_250R, what do you want for the hub and axle you have?

Does anyone know what year these parts I have belong to. If another member can use them let me know. If not when I find what they are for I can try Ebay to move the parts I am accumulating.

The off-set on my rim is 3 1/4" on both sides. Measured from the stud holes to the outer edge of the of the tire bead on the rim (or the rim lip).
The front trie size is 23 X 8.00-11.

Nice telephone pictrure.

Check you pm for the price.

Thank you so much for the help!!!! I am surprised that your rim has no offset as my 200X and 350X both have offsets. Well thats Honda for ya. I sent you another PM.
