Well over the past several months I tracked down two NOS 1984/1985 Tecate rear tires in separate purchases....One seems to have bulged tremedously. Although the pics look different the inside diameters of both have remained the same.. Poll Do you guys think when its pulled in by the bead it will be OK or is it toast...What could have caused this..I thought being in a building with a fire/high heat

Dammit!

My money is on it being fine once it's mounted.

Is it for a restore or a rider?

Hmmm not sure that will be ok.....the shape of the out side edges have gone....got a feeling it will blow up like a balloon......looks like it has been mounted to an over sized wheel?????

Looks like maybe it was mounted and overinflated? Mount it up and see what happens. I think it's going to be out of shape. I doubt it will look the same as the other tire.

I get tires in all the time that are so deformed from shipping and banding (packaging) that you cant even tell what they are, They get all out of shape but I have never had a problem. Heck I had 2 tires come together once 25-12-9 Kenda Vipers, before banding the tires would have been a total of 24 inches wide (side by side, the way they were shipped) when I got them they were only about 8-10 inches wide Max. Looks kinda like whats happened to that tire to me. I think you should be fine but it is hard to tell 100% from the pictures.

...What could have caused this..

sometimes the tire is flattened sideways for shipping, (kinda like a new tube)

Fill it up!...your good to go:welcome:

My Kenda Dirt Dogs came all smashed down way back in the early 90's. Their shape never did go back to the way it was supposed to be. They were a lot stiffer than those OEM tires though so maybe you'll be OK. But if they were smashed since the 80's though and recently released...

Well the winners are 57% who voted the tire would be fine...had them mounted today and just pressure washed the layer of wonderful NOS "tire film" that is found on older tires. Looks even better than I had hoped...Another item crossed off the list :w00t:

LOL cool we get tires from parts unlimited and there stuck together and banded flat, makes for a fun time mounting them but when you set the bead there ok! glad you made out.
