Hey,
...im sure this is a very 'n00b' question,
but why is my carb leaking out of the overflow?
I just got this 'new' carb off ebay and its leaking
is this because my jet is clogged?

could either be the level is set too high, or the needle valve isn't quite sealing.
if its the level, it needs adjusting.
if its the seal (more likely), not necessarily the end of the world for that carb. my seal isn't quite perfect, so i just have to remember to turn off the tank gas line (assuming it doesn't leak too :) ) when i'm not using it. otherwise i have a puddle of gas on the floor next time i go to use it. and its usually flooded too.

Your float could be sticky too.
Take it apart and blow it out real good. While you do that, blow through where the gas line hooks on and push up on the float with your finger, when the float is all the way up, it should seal, and no air will go through, if air leaks through, your needle and seat are worn

easier test for checking if needle valve is leaking with the carb still hooked up and in the bike, just unscrew the bowl, turn the gas on, and push the float all the way up. give it a few seconds and see if it seals perfectly or not.

HAHA, if you plugged the overflow, all the gas that would be running out of it will be going into your engine oil....The point of the overflow is to prevent the gas from going into the oil if your float is sticky, or needle and seat are worn.

yea just do what they said and clean it out with carb cleaner..
ytmboy..if you crimped your overflow and it dident run after that that is why, i remeber when i put a screw in mine cause it was overflowing and it dident run at all, uncrimp the tube and i bet you it will work. its not good to crimp it cause then you will be flooding your engine and it wont run. dont jimmy rig it fix the float.
