I just put a new clutch in my 85 250r, and now its leaking oil from teh top of the case near the cylinder or from the oil fill plug. Which do you guys think it is? The gasket may have slipped down when i was installing it...but wouldnt i have noticed it?

The oil fill plug's threads in the case are messed up. It doesnt seal as tightly as it should. Should i try to put a larger thickness oring on there, but with the same diameter so it seals up better?

Also, i had about an hour on tranny oil since i changed the clutch, and with the clutch came new 10w-30 in the tranny. Every time i drain it, it is black with a greyish haze to it. IS this coolant in the bottom end? Fuel? The consistancy feels like warm oil, but i dont think its as thick as it could be, like something is thinning it out. Maybe the more i ride and dont change it the more coolant gets in there and messes it up. The coolant level never moves, its always right to the top on the right hand side rad, and up to the full mark on the overflow tank.

Where are the possible places that coolant could get into the bottom end? There is no liquid leaking from the "telltale hole" under the water pump...where else can it get in besides the mechanical seal?

Sorry for the long post, it just seems that everywhere i look, this bike needs something.

THanks,
Mike

its possible that it sliped down, couldnt hurt to try a thicker o ring,if coolant was getting in there it would be milky whiteish.

Milky Oil meens that your getting Liquid in there. My Tecate did that so I had to redo the Pump and all that. It was easy but lame, a big let down.

I know this post is old, but I have greyish tranny oil, too. I'm in the process of replacing the mechanical seal and oil seal. How did this work out for you DeePa???

Ok,

well remembering back over 3 years lol...

the gasket did slip down because i was an idiot so that was easy to fix.

there wasn't any coolant in the oil, it was just me being paranoid. The mechanical seal was fine also.
