I'm just coming back from a 15 hours trip to finaly get that awsome beast i always wanted. It's an 86R that have maybe some work to do on it but it run strong. That thing is Fu*****ly fast :naughty:

I always tought my 84R was quick and fast  but i made my mistake. (84R : Uni filter, 36mm flatside carb, boyseen reed valve, port polish and port timing done to it, high comp head and that almighty DG exhaust loll).

I still don't know what mod are done to the engine exept reed valve spacer and answer silencer but that thing rip like a monster.

it's quicker than my 84R a it top at approx. 85mph.

I first race against an 05 raptor and i'm faster than him out of the box.
From a rolling race i still kee up the head a take the lead over is stock top speed.

What am I asking is : Is it normal or this thing got more balls than it should???

btw here's a pic. i'll try to get more in fews days and maybe some short vids if i can .

BTW I paid 1200$cnd for it approx. 900$us i think.
I need new carrier and steering stem bearing and a good all around shock and forks rebuild. oh and a kill switch

The other pic is my restaured 84 R only need sticker to get it completely done

As far as I know, its normal. I know that my R has speed galore as well as arm-ripping power.

I was going to say how is this R going 85? I mean 50 will make you think you are going 100 on a 3 wheeler.
You guys must have weak arms too.

Im sure they are lucky to go 72mph...

I know the speed limit is 65 on the road near our fields. I can keep up with traffic for a few seconds before I have to shut it down because they plowed and ruined my track!
So I would think 65 - 70 is possible

Please don't tell me you guys think 85mph is unreasonable for a 250cc 2 stroke that has been worked over. You claim "lucky to go 72mph"? Funny, I can get my heavier T4 up to that in 500' and still got a good bit left out the top end. 85mph for a stock engine probably not, but modded, no problem. Check out the one fella (sorry can't remember his username and not gonna go look it up, lol) who races up on the frozen lakes in MI. If I remember right, he was talking bout nearly 100 mph on his R.

As for your particular R, no idea what is going on...what YOU think is RIPPING, may be just average to some guys, or just the opposite. Yours might be amazing to others, but just so-so to you. If it is keeping up to/or beating a Raptor, it runs fine. Glad to hear you are all pumped about your new toy. Enjoy.

Man if you knew how much of a jerk you sound like.

Thats ChrisD and his R is a 330 bigbore, 100 mph easy. Lighten up fellas, the man bought a new trike and is stoked! Thats what counts. (some people rott me to the core)

With some 25inch tires and 15 tooth front 34 tooth rear. It will hit 100mph no problem.

As a matter of fact here is a gearing calculator that says it is possible with a 22 inch tire.

Why is it so hard to believe 85mph? A 350x is capable of doing 70mph stock and the R is faster than that.

Dammit!

Top speed is just a product of gearing, tire size and rev limit.

You don't even need 22 inch tires. 15/36 gearing with 20's and the engine modded to rev just a little higher (9000 rpm) will get it up to just over 95mph. Almost 98mph at 15/35.

There's a huge difference between a worked motor and a stock R. Stock they're pretty tame. A good port job, carb, pipe, reeds and they feel like a different machine. Let alone a big bore top end that uses a Pro-X style cylinder like what ChrisD has.

Easy there boys.. Maybe he's talkin Kilos an hour instead of MPH's. But I do agree with some of you. That yellow framed monstrosity in upstate New York is extremely fast. :w00t::TrikesOwn

Man, sorry to get you fried and all, I know its VERY possible to get a 250cc 2 stroke that fast. Im just saying I can't see that particular R going 85mph. I was talking a stock 250r.

And Nathan, you're a great guy and all, but 350x's don't do no 70mph no matter what anyone says, that means the 350x would eat a Tri-Z on the top end which I can't see happening. (In the ATVsport Tri-Z article they claimed the 1986 Ti-Z does about 67mph, and they wouldn't bullsh*t).

sorry to get back to othat old thread but i finally found out why it was pulling that hard.

i'm easely beating up a trx250 with lrd full exhaust, reed valve, k&n filter and litle port and polish on the cyl.

and i'm really going at least 95mph on stock gearing.

the reason is simple
Ported stock carb to 36mm, reed valve, port and poish cyling with a badass mid to top port timing and head gasket mod. i'm going to some 300ft drag this week-end and i'll put some video on.

how did you get your R to rev to 15,000 rpm?

09-04-2006, 11:41 PM
It isnt possible to get to that sort of speed on stock gearing...now you might be getting their a lot more quickly, but your top speed is the same no matter what engine mods you do...all bout gearing and tires brah.

stock gearing and 22" tires you will only get 77 mph. Tire size will play alot into the top speed, I have 14/38 on my 250r's and 18" tires, my setup shows 70 mph, but for mx, top speed doesn't mean anything.
