You had the motor running while you were working on the chain!?

That sucks. Did they save the end?

I cant seem to understand how you did this....
You were checking chain slack, with the chain turning? If so, why?
If you didnt have the chain turning, how did this happen? Sorry about your accident and the loss of your finger tip, Dave

How do you check chain slack using your finger to the end of your knuckle?

kinda sounds like he was pushing down on the inside of the chain while it was moving, really sorry about your finger, hope you dont only use one clutch finger like me when riding.

I too am a member of the stub club. An old chain driven riding mower got me when I was a kid. They were able to repair mine a bit. Now I get nervous putting my hands near a chain when the bike ain't even running. Sucks big time. Bet it taught ya a lesson though! Let's see some gruesome :pics:

lost my middle and index tips to a chain when iwas thirteeen. Went through the Hand Surgeons of Texas and they did a great job rebuilding them. I have to point them out now when i tell people about them. But it has been thirteen years and still no feeling.

Haha wouldn't that be a nasty surprise. Be drunk and drinking away at your rum and then you find a finger in your rum.. mm mmm!

My damage is on the right hand. Been about 17 yrs now I think. I have feeling in them, not normal though. I am right handed, and it does have a negative effect on my work (auto mechanic) at times. Dude with the hacked up toes, what were ya doin', cutting with sandals on???

I cut the end of my right pointer finger off the the only thing holding it on was the nail, if that, I got it stiched back on. and it stayed but when its cold out its the first thing that gets cold and starts to be a little annoying.

Sad but funny story I was the HSE (SAFETY) officer for a very large food corp. that processed vegetables, one of our senior millwrights put his finger through an inspection port to check a shaft while the equipment was running, ( Pretty stupid) He lost the first finger to the second knuckle (Lost time accident and WCB for 6 weeks) OSHA did a follow up inpection 3 weeks after he returned to work (9 weeks after the primary incident) to see if we had made changes in policy, guards, etc to make this maintenance function safer. The inspector could not understand how the incident occured, the same millwright demonstrated what happened using his first finger on his left hand..........

Here's your sign;
another 6 weeks of Compensation for loss of digit.

Stupidly funny, but true.
