Coke cable? I never knew that Cokeacola and Yamaha teamed up? When was this? Early 80's?

And $400 isn't much at all in the trike world. Be glad thats all you've spent. I put over $1400 into my SX and I have around $1800 into my 350X project right now and its STILL not ready to be put back together

actually it's spelled coca-cola. not cokeacola :D  and it was the late 70's when they teemed up.

I've got around $5200 in the four machines I have sitting out in the garage. And I still need to fix up that R and finish the X!
And if you include my dads 2 Big Red's in that price, we have just about $7000 in machinery sittin out there in the garage. God what an addiction! lol

Ok this might upset some yamaha loyalist, but when I first got back into trike I had a tri moto 175 and a honda 250sx. The honda was in far worse condtion so I started with the Yamaha. After several months of frustation as you descibed I gave up and parted out the yamaha and used the money to fix up the 250sx. Have been sold on honda's ever since. Now own several of them. High recommend!

lets see,1981 250r 900.00 dollars had to replace almost everything, countless ebay battles overpaying for parts. 1982 atc 300r 825.00 dollars needed nothing, but drove from louisiana to san diego, california to get it. 1980 atc 110 525.00 dollars. 1985 atc 70 350.00 dollars. drove to nashvile tenn for those. 1980 110 300.00 bucks local. 1980 atc 185 big frame model 660.00 dollars plus road trip. 82 250r roller project started with bare frame. now has all new bearings, tires, rims, new axle and working front and rear brakes, new paint blaa, blaa, blaa. factor in all the stuff to keep all those running good ,carb kits, bearings on and on. who knows what i have in all of these. thing about it is the average person wouldn't give s*** for the whole pile of them. so the way i see it is dont keep track of $$$'s. what you don't know don't hurt. unless you eat paper and crap money an pull new trikes out your butt. haven't figured out how to do that yet.:p :) ;) :beer

Does the $3500 I have in my 1981 185S count as a money pit? Oh, and I am still looking for a few parts for it... sigh.....

trikes4life... sorry to inform you but i think you'll be spending quite a bit more on your "moneypit" .. I think i remember that those headers are few and far between and expensive when you do find them. idk? maybe someone else can confirm this?

Sorry to disapoint the rest of you but the honda 200x is "king of the hill" when it comes to moneypits... of coarse, i know this from first hand experience.

Thats my saying!
Z's arent as bad as tri-motos. Theres a few design flaws, but they are good.
I have about $1500 into my project Z, and its still a pile of parts right now.

I used to have a yamaha dt 175. I finally got it to run and the first day I took it out to ride it died about a mile away from where we parked. My bro was going to go looking for me after the sun had set. He thought I had crashed somewhere. Wouldn't have been so bad if it was downhill and I could have just ridden it there rolling it like a boneshaker. It sounded like there were hammers inside the engine when it went out. It still turned over but wouldn't run. That is until we got home and it started right up just fine. I gave it away. I can't even remember what I spent getting that thing to finally run.
