How rare is a 200r seat? It came on my 250r when I bought it! It's not aftermarket or anything I looked at it today. It sez 200r on side and honda on back like normal stock seat. This is a old nationals flat track bike if that helps at all. Is it possible its off from something else? I can't think of anything! PLEASE HELP :banned:

Email me pics at James_escortracing@msn.com and I'll post them if you have them.
Major reason why you would have it is because you have a 200R race trike. Thats the only reason I can think of.

Looks to me like we have another 200R on our forum. Honda gave 200R seat covers to the good racers as a promotional type deal. Got a profile pic of the cylinder? Have you had it apart?

I have not had it apart yet, I'm going to go take more pics in the morning so I will pm you when I add them or just check the thread again in the late aftrnoon. :pics:

That isn't or doesn't look like the MTX. It has a counter balancer and the cylinder/head shape isn't like the MTX.
I think on the Honda Factory 200R's using the 250R frame, were sleeved motors. The earlier 200R's that look like they were parked into 200X frame may or may not have been MTX motors. I haven't seen a photo with enough detail to tell.
It’s definitely a NICE find!!!!!!!!!!!

im saying if i found one i would use the 200x frame and beef it up. Use the shortrack r tank and fenders and a 250r front end
I would do. DO they make a big enuff bore to build a cr125 into a cr200?

I hate to burst any ones bubble, but your bike is NOT a ATC200R. It is a production ATC250R that may have at one time been be-bored and / or stroked to be legal to run in the 200 2 stroke class. Many privateer racers did this, mostly with Kawasakis as the "de-bore" was easier to do on the Kawasaki's.
The ATC 250 was already a small bore, and reducing it made the engine VERY undersquare which isn't really a combination that will build hi HP.
Many aftermarket seat manufacturer's could and did add any logos to seat covers, and many came with the necessary parts if purchased in "kit" form.
Again, sorry to inform you, but you have an ordinary ATC250R. If the engine is still in its 200cc form (doubtful), you would really benefit by restoring it into a 250 again! It will run WAY better and be much funner to ride, believe me.
I noticed the DG logos on the side of the cylinder. DG was my major sponsor back when I was racing a trike just like yours. They (DG) did excellent porting work.
Good luck and ride safely!

?? I have never to this day seen an aftermarket Honda seat cover that looks as authentic as OEM.....Like the one pictured on that 200r seat. Looks very authentic Honda to me right down to the grain of the vinyl and the lack of aftermarket stitching. I am not discrediting what you said but are you saying there is no truth to Honda racing suppliying some rider with these bikes?.

yes it runs really good it hasn't beel rebuilt since 86 and it's still got tons of compression! DG is on the cylinder, the did the port and polish.

Because the guy I bought this from I know well, (I used to work with him) and he was only the 2nd owner of the trike. He bought it from the guy that raced it. He never really told me much about the bike when I bought it. The guy that does all my motor work has been telling me bits and peices about it. He also raced flat track and was good friends with him. I know his name but I am not revealing!

Didn't anybody else notice that the middle "0" on that cover has been modified from a "5"? It's just a regular 250R cover. I'm sure these machines were pretty common back in the day and that was a common way to mod the seat. I looked at a "200R" myself back in the late 80's that was a former Nat'l racer but I didn't want a sleeve down 250R. Why would you want LESS power?

03-11-2006, 12:33 PM
I kinda felt that way the first time I looked at it but have no proof. Why do you say that it was modified, you can see some bleming or wearing etc in the first 0 but that could be from something else NO??
DeePa
03-11-2006, 12:39 PM
it seems that the white has faded to show some blue underneath it. The blue looks to be perfectly straight and line up exactly where the blue in the 5 would be. It also looks like the / in the top left corner of the 0 is at a different angle than the other 0. Im not taking his creditability away, he doesnt know. But the more i look at it the more it looks like a stock 250r seat, and a very nice one at that.
but then again, look at this 200r seat...look closely and you can kind of see the fading...

Whether an authentic machine or not......sure looks as much of an old school racer to me as anything else out there...it's cool as heck. Short track kit, the seat, DG engraved on the side of the cylinder...Definitely a great find. In addition, you don't need to be as paranoid about riding it like a Tiger500 or some other rare piece. If it blows, rebuild it and ride some more.

Yes, my Brother ( erectordale ) has a Tiger 500 or 2. I do know he has stated that he is trying to get them running for Trikefest. ;)

Basically there were two types of 200Rs back then:
Factory 200R "works" trikes.
and
Production 250Rs that were sleeved down. I think Selvy was the #1 200R conversion people back then.
This bike definitely was a sleeved down 250R. That's obvious. I came across one a few years back somewhat local to me and should have bought it but didn't. It looked just like that one (same seat cover) but it's frame was red and If I remember right the guy that had it sent a 250R to Selvy to have it converted to a 200R.
It would be very easy for them (or anyone) to have modified a STOCK 250R seat cover to say 200R. Just remove the middle of the 5 with some kind of paint remover. Which that picture looks like to me.
I would listen to CoeShow, 250rAl and the others who say this is converted 205R. :beer I'd say the true works 200Rs Honda kept or destroyed.
This 200R that you found was a great trike to find. An old racer with lots of cool parts. I'd probably switch it back to a 250 too, if it's not already :beer .

I agree with Jeb and the others that this is a converted 250r. Its definatly a old school piece with cool aftermarket items. Do you think when they converted them to a 200 that making the 250r seat into a 200r seat was part of the package? Its strange that we've heard/seen more than a few seats this was done to which would lead you to belive either honda or a company was converting the seats. I too have read a old article about a 200x framed 2 stroke, probably their racer before the '85 250r frame was out. The 200r's that might not exist any more are below. Check out the strange looking air scoops, seat covers that say Honda on the sides, different bends in the rear fenders. And probably the most craziest thing, the sprocket and disk mounted in the middle of the swing arm.

i love the bike personally but will also have to say its probably a sleeved down 250R.... still it would make for a fun as heck ride... come on its now a ferrari of a 250R! i will not take away from its crediabilty, we have all seen the OOO TIGER 500, ATC200R, 87 250R... and all those pop up on the forums to be some kid who wanted to rattle the birds cage and never produce anything, i think for a first time post... this boys got some credits and Kudo's..... i say rock on man, if you where to put it up for sale the same guys saying its just a convert... would be baggin down your door to get it... even if its a selvy... its still worth some *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*.... so rock on bro... good find and restor her back to her privateer glory, thats wat i would do.... but again nice find...

The best "Privateer" 200cc Honda's were actually De-Stroked. A handfull of tuners offered this setup but Selvys seemed to be the most popular at the time. It was not the most common route taken due to the large expense but it was the cure for the undersquare scenario that is present when sleeving the 250R down that Mike Coe pointed out (Large Stroke & Small Bore).
I have to search but I seem to think that Mike in FT. Lauderdale has an actual Selvys de-stroked 200cc Screamer....
I also seem to remember the same thing that Mike Coe said earlier. The Honda 200R "National Kits" from certain tuners came complete with a 200R seatcover.
